It was cool to see what is left of the dome homes...Unfortunately the next major storms may do them in. It was an interesting concept at the time they were built.

We happen to come upon this while on a tour. Interesting to know this house was featured in an architecture magazine back in the 80's. While destroyed during a hurricane, protected because of nesting.

I have wanted to see the Dome House for years and finally got to go! We took a shelling/nature trip on the Calusa Spirit. So easy, picked us up on the beach and took off! Our hosts Capt. Joe and First Mate Sonia were terrific! Very informative and made sure we saw plenty of wildlife and sea life. The Dome... More

Visit the abandoned "Dome homes" that sit majestically in the sea. Built during the 80's , still standing from numerous storms and hurricanes over the years now gives shelter to 30" snook. The ever changing cape .....keeps boaters hypnotized into thinking how was it back in the past. Be sure to visit Shell Island just south of there and find... More

Very good paddle for experienced kayakers! Bring your camera. Be part of history. This place is gorgeous and sad all in one trip.

Cape Romano is a special place to access by boat at the South tip of Marco Island. The special 'moon houses' there are an unusual site as they slowly wash away into the water year after year along with the driftwood that withers day to day. A nice spot to pull up your boat and picnic by the shore. This... More

The island is very unique. The water is clear and there are thousands of shells. However, there are these unusual flies on the island. I loved it, but I would not like to be stranded on this island....

Took a wave runner tour to Cape Romano. You feel like you're on a deserted Island in the middle of nowhere. The dome home that is almost completely destroyed is pretty interesting to see, depending on low/high tide is how close you are able to get. This is just a beautiful, peaceful place to go and get away for the... More

The best way to reach this destination for us (my wife and 2 teenage boys) proved to be renting a small power boat at the Calusa Island Marina. We boated around and saw plenty of dolphins and birds along the way with our boys throughouly enjoying their morning adventure. We quite enjoy kayaking but this destination seemed like simply too... Nice deserted island beach only accessible by boat. Good swim, shelling, and interesting to see the deserted ruins of the stilt dome home .
