We were there between 2 & 3 p.m. on Saturday the 12th of July. The area has the old southern charm of a small town . The old buildings are great to look at. But most of the store were closed early so we cruised around the streets. Of course a major thunderstorm was brewing and this also cleared out... More

If people want tourist and business then people need a reason to go there. Stores need to be professional and open and close when they say they will. There is so much potential. Yes there's a hotel they let die. Instead of A sign saying felony for trespassing it wouldn't cost hardly anything to put up pics in front of... More

Quaint little downtown center that is a step back in time to the 1920's and 1930's. Good for a nice stroll down memory lane.

We downloaded the historic walking tour map from Lake Wales' website and hoped for interesting architecture. There is some, especially the Arcade building, but we did not find the few buildings to be very special. The hotel, once an elegant building, is terribly dilapidated. Most of the old buildings are on two streets; our walk lasted no more than 45... More

Walking downtown is relaxing, but to go shopping is not my recommendation. I have been here a few times and every time I regret wasting my time thinking of buying anything. You must understand that there are very rich people in this area and from other place that come to visit, so the prices to them seem reasonable. However, rarely... More

It definitely seems like it has seen better days. And it's seems like all of the businesses are dying, so try to spend a little at the downtown merchants to keep the small businesses afloat. Small town America is dying before our eyes.

For those who have an interest in Deco and 1920's style Florida development this is a well preserved area with some antique shops, hardware, offices, arcade and food available.

If you are in Lake Wales it is worth a look but do not go out of your way to get there. It is supposed to be an old town but I guess old is subjective... We walked around the whole downtown area in approximate 10 mins without finding anywhere open that we wanted to go into.

OK, if you want a cool old time hardware store like they had in days gone bye, then yes, Cliff's is the place to stop and shop. Jerry at the barber shop does give nice hair cuts on a walk-in basis. Max at the jewelry store has an extensive collection of estate pieces. While there a couple worthwhile stops, I... More
