This preserve was started as a wetlands mitigation project by Disney and is maintained by the Nature Conservancy. If you want to see Florida in its true natural state, this is the place to go. More

Decided to check out this place, as a switch from our usual park hopping/shopping trip. It is off the beaten path, to a Florida I don't normally see. There is a driving loop, with a bypass that you can read signage telling you a bit about the park & what you can see. I'm sure if we had had binocs... More

We visited the preserve after 5 days at the Disney parks; it was good to get away from the crowds and 'concrete jungle'. The preserve was about a 25 minutes drive and well worth the drive. No characters, no cast members (unless the volunteer caretaker counts) - this place is run by The Nature Conservancy. On our visit we saw... More

No characters and no rides. Just a nice walking path. I used to come here years ago and you could walk the entire preserve and see the snakes, armadillos, birds, etc. Now it is a much shorter loop (~3 miles) and not too much to see. Would recommend going to one of the Florida state parks. Wekiwa Springs is a good... More

My husband and I visited the Disney Wilderness Preserve and were greeted by a very lovely husband and wife who volunteer to watch over the preserve. I have a feeling they live in a camper on the property and are the caretakers there, at least part of the year. We took the 2+ mile hike. It was mostly level ground... More

this place is the best loved every miniute The only downside was sometimes the man on the gate on entry was very abrupt. Only one of them but he was the same every time. All the other cast members were very welcoming. More

"Beginning May 28, 2011, the preserve will be closed on weekends. " It's not exactly user-friendly for those of us that live and work in the area. Very disappointed that we drove 1 1/2 hours and could not get in. More
