It was so nice to listen to the birds and the wind in the trees. We did the short walk with a stop at Russell Lake. The walk is easy to follow and relaxing. The facility is clean and the lady working there was very pleasant and helpful. The bathrooms were clean and the whole property was spotless. If you... More

Wide open spaces with beautiful trail and lovely little lake-side picnic area. We could see Wood Storks nesting in the tall trees across the lake. The trails are well maintained and the main building has lovely rocking chairs to relax on the side porch afterwards.

Visited in Feb. 2014. Restroom facilities; a short 2-3 mile trail down to Lake Russell. At the lake there is hardly any view, but there is one bench and a picnic table in bad shape. On the walk we passed 2 benches in pretty bad shape. You walk by a small pond, you may see a turtle or two. There... More

I had an extra day after finishing up on a group photo shoot and I decided to spend it at the Wilderness Preserve. I'm from Denver, so I haven't seen much of Florida wilderness. I was not disappointed. While the trail is only about 2.5 miles, I found the scenery to be beautiful, especially the cyprus trees rising out of... More

This is a nice little preserve that is part of the Nature Conservancy. It is NOT a Disney park; rather, a preserve permanently set aside to offset the loss of habitat and wetlands on the WDW property. I find the site quaint and full of wildlife. It is a short drive from the attractions and makes for a nice relaxing... More

The idea is great... however the outcome was bland. 30-40 minute drive from Disney area. I walked into the office and there was a sign in sheet. I saw a person for a second and then by the time I walked around to the other side of the office she was gone. I stood there for 5 minutes or so... More

We read about this place on Florida Hikes! website. It's supposed to be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. We were really anxious to go here and walk on a cooler day, and explore a new place. We drove and hour and a half from the east coast only to find it closed! Sign stated holiday ( Tday, Christmas... If you are looking for a couple of hours break from the hustle and bustle of the Theme Parks I would definitely pay a visit to the Disney Wilderness Preserve. I do however think it right to manage your expectations! Although the word Disney is pre-fixed to the name of this preserve you will not find any Disney Characters wondering... More

Disney Wilderness Preserve is a great change of pace from the usual Orlando area attraction. It is located very close to the city and all of the tourist action, yet feels and looks worlds apart and is perfect for the nature lover who grows tired of the theme parks and wants a little peace and quiet. This preserve was created... More

It is a wildlife preserve afterall - but the mosquitoes were vicious! :) We saw lots of small wildlife on our trip. Little birds, frogs and dragonflies. It was just extremely hot when we went. Would like to go on a cooler day. It was stated that the trails were all paved, but they were not. Still a good trip.
