The city of Marathon does an outstanding job keeping this beach nice. The facilities are always good. Plenty of picnic tables, playground, swings, volleyball, and a lovely beach with shallow calm water and just enough rocky shoreline to provide a little snorkeling. Plus, it allows dogs on leash. No reason to pay to get into Bahia Honda State Park when... More

There was a sign up stating that the bacteria was high in the water and hazardous to human health. It also smelled poorly. :( The park outside of the beach was a lot of fun for the kids, though. More

Long sandy beach. Be careful of the coral though. Quiet and safe. More

A good place to go if all those shallow beaches are getting to you!!! You can actually swim and there is some shade to sit under. It also has showers and bathrooms. More

We read about this beach on Tripadvisor and it didn't disappoint us when we visited. It is a sandy beach, it has covered picnic areas, a playground, a volleyball court, shady areas with benches, rinse stations, and nice bathroom facilities. The parking was crowded, but there was plenty of room on the beach. Great beach with no seaweed! It was... More

We went to several "beaches" on our week long visit to the keys and were very disappointed in most of them. Massive amounts of seaweed clogged Bahia to the point of being unusable, yet somehow Sombrero remained fairly clean and very nice. Great sand, water,& views. Rinse stations, shelters,& restrooms all nice. If you're wanting to get in some snorkeling, swimming, and photos you... More

We stumbled upon Sombrero Beach back in November, after we had stopped at Bahia Honda on a windy day, and found BH too churned up to go in. Sombrero is a great beach! The parking is very close, there is plenty of shade, and the facilities are new and well kept. The sound of the breeze through the trees and... More
