A beautiful place to stop and watch the sunset. But just about anywhere in the Keys is a great palce to watch sunset especially when you are from Minnesota or Wisconsin and it's -10F there. It's best in winter because the beach actually faces mostly south.

If you are looking forward to beautiful beaches on the Keys, you will be disappointed. The few beaches there are man-made. This particular beach is a nice picnic spot, playground, and facilities (showers and bathrooms). Very heavy and thick seaweed made you difficult to get into the water. Two days later, the seaweed was gone but the water was murky.

I have the feeling that normally this is a great beach and worth of its "World Famous" praise, but the day we went was after a storm which had pushed a ton of sea grass up to the beach. You had to walk across 3-4 feet of grass to get to the waters edge and the wade thru another 10... More

Nice beach! We enjoyed a couple of afternoons relaxing on the beach. The water isn't too deep and is pretty clear and refreshing. The restrooms, changing areas and picnic areas also appeared to be well maintained.

After spending alot of time looking for beaches we found Sombrero beach. The beach is clean. Plenty of good sand to lay a towel out and relax. There are facilities for changing and showering. We did some snorkeling there and for beginners was good as we saw some fish. There is also picnic area and playground. Plenty of free parking.

We arrived to Key Colony Beach on the 4th of July. I spoke to our rental agent earlier in the day and asked where to go to see fireworks. I am so glad she told us to go to Sombrero Beach. If you are in the area for the 4th it is amazing. They did a great display right from... More

The City of Marathon has made great effort to make this beach one of the nicest in the Florida Keys. It is in the middle of Marathon and just a short drive off US1. The beach and facilities are very well maintained and even has a playground for the little ones. Whether you are looking to kick back and enjoy... More

The Keys are awesome, but sandy beaches can be in short supply, this beach fills that need, free parking, playground, picnic tables, plenty of sand for everyone. We even say a giant Iguana that was easily four feet long. We named him King Sombrero, say hi if you see him.

The beach amenities are great. Lots of parking, picnic pavilions, good restrooms and wash down facilities. Some of the beach is coral and a bit rough on the feet. The snorkeling is OK but much better off shore (of course). Great place for a quick dip and to relax.
