I am a beginner diver and this was only my second trip diving. Captain Newt and Divemaster Beth were awesome! First, the boat is intimate. There is only room for 6 divers so you don't feel like you are being herded. Also when out on the reef you aren't crowded with people all around you. They gave us the briefing... More

Booked a 2-tank dive, staff very helpful/friendly at the shop. Captain who took us out was very nice, had only 3 divers total plus 2 snorkelers on the boat (one of whom was spearfishing) so was a great small group. Rental gear was in excellent shape, plenty of sandbag weights on board for integrated pouches. At the dive site we... More

My husband and I completed a 2-tank morning and 2-tank afternoon dive with the Abyss Dive Center. Beautiful, newer dive boat - with a maximum of 6 divers allowed. It was very, very nice to have room to spread out and not feel like cattle being transported to market. Capt. Newt was friendly and helpful My ONLY negative comments: would... More

We did a couple of dives with Abyss and they were great. There were a total of six divers and Captain Bob took a survey on where we wanted to go. Someone said Sombrero Reef and that is where we did our first dive. The second dive was on Boom's Ledge which was by far better than Sombrero since we... More

Such a great outfit to dive with. This was only our second saltwater dive and Abyss did a great job! I took my 14 year old daughter and 10 year old son (both are certified divers) and the captain (Capt Bob) and hired dive master (Beth) did an amazing job giving instructions and explaining the dive site and how to... We recently did a 2 tank dive with this operator. The front office staff was very friendly and helpful. The dive instructor and captain were aloof, uncaring and unhelpful. They grudgingly helped show how their boat works and no safety session given. They were NOT thrilled they we needed some assistance with our rented equipment either. When we arrived at... More

We did two morning dives to The Gap and Barbara's. Boat was excellently maintained, getting on and off was efficient, had rinse basin but no shower. My complaint is we were not given a briefing of the dive sites and it was clear to the captain we were from out of town (briefing is done by captain because no dive... More

Went out twice with them and found them all quite competent and agreeable. I really like that they take only a maximum of 6 people out. The boat is well-maintained and the captain very helpful. I didn't realize that it's not standard in the Keys to have a divemaster from the shop go on the dives. Being fairly inexperienced, I... More

If you like to SCUBA Dive and you want to dive off Marathon Key, this is the place. Many dive centers have huge boats. If you have ever gone diving, you know what a hassle it is to get off and on the boat with a crowd. No such problem here. This boat holds five people. It's easy off/easy on.... More

Let me start out by saying my wife and I are very experienced divers. We dive locally in Florida (mostly Palm Beach county) but have done plenty of dive travel as well. I know what I want in a dive operation: ecologically responsible, no cattle boat, friendly and responsible crew. Abyss met all of our expectations. The boat took 4... More
