Owner description: A sunny place for shady people. The Green Parrot is the first and last bar on US1, and brings Key West the best live musical acts from across North America. Equal parts honky-tonk, dive bar and local hangout, The Green Parrot defies definition in musical range, decor and drink selections. Voted best live music venue in Florida by Florida Magazine. You'll find everyone at The Green Parrot - from Key West politicians playing bingo on Mondays to boat captains dancing into the night with their "catch of the day."

This local bar scene, is well known to locals, bring in great bands because of the fun it encompasses. Painkillers, Tap beer, never wait for service, darts, pinball, pool - has something for everyone. A place you can feel comfortable in.

John, Thanks for the kind words regarding the bands, the diversions we offer in the way of games, and the way you describe the something-for-everyone vibe of the place. We are happy you felt comfortable, that is our goal. Mostly though, I appreciate the kind words you offered to our staff when you said you "never wait for service" I... More

If you're heading to Key West, you simply have to visit the Green Parrot. It simply hasn't changed in 15 years and keeps it authentic Key West feel. Beer selection is much improved with the addition of craft beers- still served in a nice glass pint glass (not a plastic cup) Bands are top notch. One negative, seems like everyone... More

This is a bar bar. A place where the locals like to drink and don't mind doing it alongside the tourists who've strayed the block south from Duval to this venerable watering hole at the corner of Southard and Whitehead. Skip the tourist traps -- drink at a real bar.

Keith, Thanks for the 5 stars. We like to think our regulars don't minding sharing a pint with visitors. After all, weren't we all just visitors once ourselves? Hope to hoist one with you myself next time you're around. John More

On Fridays (maybe other nights as well, I'm not sure), the featured band plays a set at 5:30. They call it sound check, but it's a full set of great music. We love it--get some dancing in before dinner, and then maybe go back for a later set. It's always popular so don't expect to get a seat.

Peggy, Thanks for the kind words. We love our "sound checks" as well. Since we started them just a few years back they have certainly become real social events for our locals and travelers alike. Why should the folks who stay up late have all the fun! Hope to see you here soon! John More

This is a dive bar at its very best. Funky, smoke filled, great music and the drinks are great. We popped in to hear the Original Blues Brother Band. One of the best trumpet players I have heard in a long time was kicking it up a notch. This was a very fun, historic and cool bar you must have... More

we spent some time here on our recent trip to key west. The live music pulled us in and kept us for awhile. Folks were dancing and just having a great time here. Good service and a good time can be had here!

While staying in Truman Annex the Parrot became an integral part of our visit. Got to know some 'regulars' (yes we were there that often!). Friday night sound check is a 'must attend' sort of gig. Lots of 'characters' and stories on the sidewalk with high end cigars while the music saturated us outside. Some nights quiet; some nights rockin'.... More

Visited this bar on the first Saturday night of Fantasy Fest. A band was playing and the place was hopping. Went back the next night and they denied our group (six in total) entrance because I was wearing a Native American costume that did not include a shirt. Seriously? During Fantasy Fest? I am a male. I looked in the... More
