USS Hoyt S Vandenberg saw service with Army, Navy and AIr Force, and was sunk of Key West on 27 May 2009. I know this as I was there, and saw it from about one mile away (on dive boat Dream). She sank in c. 90 seconds after being absolutely prepared for diving - there are swim throughs everywhere. The... More

Check current and visibility before you go, been 10 times since it sank, the art is amazing, you can dive this ship for a week and not see it all.

I like ship wrecks and "Reefed ships" and the Vandenburg is a great dive. Not much sealife yet, as the ship has not been down long, but a great BIG ship to explore. For the second year in a row, They have a Art show on the ship, which is really cool as how often can you look at art... More

This is a newer wreck without a lot of growth yet but it was "prepared" before it was sunk so there are many available swim-throughs. I dove this on a day with perfect 100' visibility and no current with Dive Key West. It doesn't get better than that!

The Vandenberg is probably one of the best recreational wreck dives there is. There are 4 mooring lines anchored to different locations on the ship. Your are briefed as to which one your boat is tied to and to make sure you find the same line to surface on. The only suggestion I have would be to install a placard... More

It took me three days and 6 dives to explore the entire shipwreck. I also got to meet Joe Weatherby, the guy who sunk the 550 foot ship! If you like to dive... dive the VANDENBERG.
