This "beach" was not very well kept and seems like it may be reclaimed from some former industrial site. There is a pier, but the beach proper is very rocky, hard to get out to the water. We had heard you may be able to snorkel here, but that was not the case. The water is way too murky, full... More

I am an optimist. Yesterday I read through reviews about this beach, noting that the majority were positive. My son REALLY wanted to snorkel, and along the old pier sounded promising. I realize that weather affects clarity of water, but today was nice and just a little breezy. The water was so murky we couldn't see three inches in front... More

We went to all the beaches. This was the best. You can walk on the beach and get in water without shoes.

Higgs Beach is a regular stop when we visit Key West. The beach is not expansive, but it is a very clean beach, and the water is the perfect color and temperature to encourage beachgoers to take a plunge. It is so refreshing and a high point of each visit.

With the calm and clear blue water along with white sand.. this looked very exotic to me.... and pretty affordable too.. like renting the snorkeling gear ( the clear warm water is real temptation) and even the beach chairs and umbrellas..I didn't quite expect that... Miami south beach should learn something from them.. Since most of the Key West beaches... More

I spent a great morning at this gorgeous beach! The water was warm and clear, the beach was clean and it was free! There were lots of fish to see if you snorkel out by the pier. You can also buy snorkel gear from the hut that rents beach chairs and umbrellas ($20 for 2 chairs and an umbrella). There's... More

Nice sandy beach with facilities. Free parking. Long pier (no fishing here) so you can see fish in crystal clear water. Looks like a good snorkeling here (we did nor snorkel, water was a little cold for us in March). Good for babies and everybody else, shallow and no waves.

We had been to Ft Zachary Taylor (without water shoes) and weren't impressed. Found Higgs Beach the next day - close by Duval, and it is a soft sandy beach and very shallow a long ways out. The water is not crystal clear/blue but it is clear enough to see several feet down. Good for kids to play along the... More

So it turns out (according to the front desk at Suite Dreams Inn) Key West is not known for it's beaches. I always thought islands were surrounded by beaches but that is not the case here. There are just a couple of beaches and they all have pros and cons. Today we hit Higgs Beach. It is really small but... More
