Used to be a great local place, but the beach chair concession really took over, now there is limited space. Additionally part of the beach is off limits because of the homeless. The pier is great and a wonderful place to watch the sun go down.

I'm not a beach person but I think these beach as a beach, is probably okay. I came here to teach the kids to snorkel and for that reason Higgs Beach is superb. The beach is surrounded by a dilapidated steel breakwater that shelters it from any wave action. The bottom gently slopes to a maximum depth of around 8... More

This lovely historical beach, captured the essence of a tranquil moment ,in the midst of the breathtaking ones to be had in Key West. You can walk and walk out into the oceans depth.

Key West is not known for its beaches since it is a surfaced coral reef island. However, this beach has sand deep to the water's edge, rental umbrellas and chairs, and beach front eatery. We visited while staying at the Casa Marina. But as for beaches goes, it's small and very average otherwise.

We walked a lot to find a beach to cool off. It was a hot, steamy day in September when we visited. Higgs Beach was nice. There were not a lot of people here and the water was cool and had a beautiful view. I even saw a small stingray in the water. I highly recommend this beach.

Best beach we found in Key West. Less sea weed that the others (Smathers, etc.) and good shallow water with some fish. Saw quite a few fish swimming in schools. Enjoyed the large sand bars. One problem was (and this was everywhere we found) was sand was only a few inches thick and it was impossible to plant a beach... More

Great beach and very shallow. We all enjoyed just sitting in the water and visiting. The pier was close and we watched the kids jumping in and laughing. Paddleboards and umbrellas for rent. Beach was free.

Plenty of free parking, water sports available, nice pier to walk out on + for water entry, great snorkel spot--especially under the pier + at higher tide. Nice shade areas under the palm trees altho you still need sun screen--I got really burned, must have been from the water reflection.

Coming from Pensacola Beach there is hard to find a nicer beach. With that said we love coming to Higgs beach when in KW. They clean the beaches around sunrise every morning to get rid of a lot of the seaweed that has washed up. It has a nice pier you can go down with stairs in 2 locations to... More
