White sand in Key West with Free Parking!

I got here early and landed a great beach spot in a place not known for its beaches. I stayed all day on a chaise with an umbrella for $20. Best value in Key West! The advice from... read more

I'd heard this beach was nice so we walked down from our nearby hotel. The smell was awful! There was what looked like washed up manure all on the shore. Yes the beach itself looked nice but I couldn't stay because of the smell!

So my brother and I rented bikes from a place on Duval street and rode over to Higgs beach to snorkel. Upon arrival we decided to avoid the water altogether. Unfortunately the seaweed was pretty prevalent and pretty stinky! This beach could be really pretty if it had been a different time. Sad the seaweed was all over and unavoidable!

I got here early and landed a great beach spot in a place not known for its beaches. I stayed all day on a chaise with an umbrella for $20. Best value in Key West! The advice from other reviewers was spot on. DO NOT attempt to walk into the water from the beach! The coral will take you down....I... More

The two main beaches that everyone knows in Key West are Smathers Beach and Higgs Beach. They are a few minutes apart from each other by car or by bicycle, but there is a world of difference between them. Higgs Beach, for some reason, is always more crowded. I think this is partly due to the playground on the beach... More

We took a day and visited all the beaches in KW, this was the clearest and best. This beach didn't have as much rock to walk on in the beach area or seaweed. They had a pier to walk out onto and restaurant and park nearby.

There are more facilities here but no sand. We looked at this beach and went down to Smathera beach. It's tons better as far as entry into the water and sand. Not as rocky. I've checked Higgs off my list no need to go back.

Went on a whim and it was pretty smelly but very natural. We bought cheap snorkeling stuff at CVS. There are fish swimming around all over by the pier that goes out (which you can jump off of). The water is beautiful. Loved the natural sea grass and all the different kinds of fish. Not something you see every day... More

However there is a problem with washed up stagnant sea weed, the smell is terrible, they should really clean it up! However the beach is so nice, the water is about 85 Degrees, yum

Higgs beach is probably by far the best beach in Key West. Mind you there not a lot of options available to you, but it takes all your worries away, at least for the day. Great sand bar, good snorkeling!

So after being told that Higgs beach is better than the other beaches in the area we ended up here after going to Fort Zach. The beach here is right off the street, with no admission and dare I say, it's better than the beach at the fort. Sure, it's free which makes things better but the beach isn't as... More
