We loved the 6 toed kitties. Found out that Hemingway actually only lived in the house about 8 years. He was a womanizer and drunk. Kinda put a damper on the whole "Pappa" thing.

Hemingway was interesting and the house was charming. If you don't like cats I'm not sure you would like to go. You don't have to touch them but they are all around. The tour was very informative.

The home and grounds were what we expected, an older home in Key West. What made this visit better than average was our tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about Hemingway and his life and works, and appeared to be genuinely enthralled with Hemingway and sharing his knowledge about the author with his tour group. It was nice to see... More

The place brought up the nice memories from my childhood age when I read most of Hemingways work. It is certainly worth visiting if you made it to the most Southern point of the US. Thank you for reminding me of these lovely memories.

Glad we took this tour. Relatively inexpensive, and hugely informative and interesting. If you were never intrigued by him don't bother. Helps if you like cats also. We learned much about the man.

Interesting place to visit, if you are a cat lover, you will enjoy all 52 cats that reside there, all descendents of Hemingway's cat named Snowball. Our tour guide was so informative!

There are many cats on the grounds so if you do not like cats or are allergic, this may be a factor you will want to consider. The tour guide is great and recommend waiting for a tour guide as you learn more facts and information about the home and the family.

Thank you very much Sharon for your excellent 5-star review! Thank you for recommending the guided tour and commenting that your tour guide was great. The six-toed (polydactyl) cats are always an added treat and provide even more photo opportunities when visiting the estate. They also provide an insight to Ernest's softer human quality in his love and caring for... More

If you have any interest in Hemmingway, you need to take the tour. You can check things out yourself, or take a guided tour. If you are not in a rush, stick around for the tour. The guides are knowledgable with regards to the history of the house, and especially Hemmingway and the 6 and 7 toed cats. The highlight... More
