This was my second trip down to Key West and I never tire of the beautiful blue green water on each side of the car. We saw lots of little Key deer on No name key.

From the toll road exit in Homestead to Key West city limits is 129 miles and 80% of the way is 45 mph with only a few stop lights in Key Largo & Marathon. Construction, truck with boats, tour & school buses plus old drivers are the norm daily and will slow you down even more. The road has been... More

No other highway like this. hard to describe the first time you go from Key Largo to Key West. Seven Mile bridge and lots of great stops at different keys. Bucket list should have this at the top. Gulf of Mexico on one side, the Atlantic on the other with just you and a highway separating them. Unreal.

If your objective is to get to Key West and 'make good time' then you'll likely be at least a little disappointed with this trip. You will only see water for about 15-20% of the trip. You will love it when you see it, but in between you'll wish you flew into Key West. If you don't mind (or even... More

I went on a tour bus and it was incredible. If you are the type of traveler that loves the beach or beautiful sunset this would be a place for you. Go experience it!

Stunning views as you drive over the keys. Speed limit varies between 35-55mph but mainly around 45mph!

It made for a very long trip, especially when people in front of you are going very slow. Not very scenic and very dark at night so there was even less to see.

Being on vacation when I am down there, I shift into slower speed after driving 2200 miles on super highways from Ohio or flying in for that matter. Considering it is the only road in and out of the keys there are bound to be delays. Our last visit in May there was an accident on the Seven Mile Bridge... More

Drove down from Miami to Key West in August. The drive doesn't get interesting until you get down by Islamorada when you can finally see water on both sides. Before that it's an endless roadway that sometimes is just one lane both ways (it sucks if you get behind someone pulling a huge boat going 35mph). It was pretty boring,... More

The Overseas Highway runs 205 km (127 mile) from the Florida mainland across the Florida Keys all the way to Key West. Interesting is that large parts of the highway are built on the foundations of the former Florida East Coast Railroad. This railroad was built in 1912 but largely destroyed in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. The company... More
