Knowing Pennekamp Park has quite low visibility underwater I did not expect much. Ever since I was certified I always dreamed of scuba diving in this place. We went with quite big group and not only we were lucky there was no any other boats but the visibility was excellent. The view of the statue is very mysterious and spiritual... More

We loved this site! the Christ statue was really impressive, and the coral reef around was beautiful, a lot of sea fans and blue tangs, we also spotted a few barracudas. We went out with a small boat with only 4 divers, although it was a Saturday only a handful snorkelers there - it was not crowded as we expected.

You should definitely check out this dive site if interested! Only downside is since it is a popular place it may be a little crowded.

Dove the Christ of the Abyss today - Went out with the John Penny-camp state park dive boat. Beautiful boat, friendly crew, reasonable price. Park is typically more crowded then some of the other parks in the keys further down, but the dive boat is maxed at 20. It is not mixed with snorkelers, just divers. The dive is shallow,... More

One of the greatest snorkeling statues in the world. Feel the pressure as you make your way some 17 feet to Christ of the Deep. The fish in the area is simply amazing. A must while in the Keys.

On this day it was just our snorkel boat and our family of 4. There were 2 foot rolling seas but we're experienced snorkelers and did just fine. We really enjoyed the coral and found it to be better than expected. I don't think it would be as great on a calm day because so many people might be there.... More

This is not a dive site. It is a tourist attraction. Nothing to see here but the statue covered in fire coral. We ended up following the reef south and found some life but not much.

Christ of the Abyss is actually the correct name of this statue that was donated by the Cressi family. This statue is one of four created by an Italian sculptor which are placed in various locations around the world. The 4000 pound statue is situated in very shallow water--depths of about 18 feet make it a great snorkeling site. The... More

I would give this a better review, except the day we went, there were high seas, and the visibility was poor. However, I could tell the coral was beautiful, and the Statue would be great to see

Actual statue is interesting to visit, but for diving it is highly over rated. The site is very busy and you're likely to run into other divers. Best avoid this until you've exhausted all the other wonderful reefs and wrecks.
