What a great beach. Perfectly clean white sand and warm ocean water. Bring food and drink as there are no concessions in the area. Have been at this beach many times and by far I rate it a 10. Check out Florida Department of Health web page for the good rating of water quality

This protected reef provides an opportunity to interact with nature at its best. The water is clear, the colors are vivid, and the flora and fauna are plenteous. We swam with barracuda, grouper, sharks, stingrays, and the list goes on. We spent two hours swimming and never tired of the sights to sea. It is only a 20-25 minute trip... More

Visited Marathon Key and rented a boat for the week. Drove to Sombrero Reef and found a buoy. Stayed for around 3 hrs!! Saw lots of beautiful fish, nurse sharks and even a group of manatees swam through!! Not too crowded even through it was spring break week. Highly recommend as a beautiful experience!

Spend 3 hours on the reef. Saw lots of coloful fish, water was warm. Lovely day! Quite a few boats but that didn't seem to scare away the fish.

The day I have been there with spirit snorkeling was a little too windy, with 2-5 ft waves. Hard to remain on water, but worth the experience.

We took a snorkel boat out to the reef and it was well worth it, the wildlife was amazing and was a great experience for our 2 children.

Like: Beautiful reef with tons of sea life! Dislikes: Tons of boats visiting area and much more of a tourist destination, very busy area.

We took a charter snorkeling trip to the Sombrero Reef. Lots to see, and the kids had a great time. Did not see a manatee, but had a good time watching dolphins from the boat.

We enjoy taking our sailboat to Sombrero Reef to snorkel. It's less than 6 nautical miles off shore and has mooring balls directly over the reef. Before you even get in the water, you can see the fish below. As a protected area, the fish and coral are as good as it gets in the Keys. Unfortunately, the coral has... More

We took one of the snorkle tours of the reef- spent several hours swimming with the fish and even swam with a turtle. Would strongly encourage diving in!
