We did three 1-hour snorkels at different points along the reef and saw different, amazing critters at each one. There were several large reef sharks, many colorful fish to view up-close, a spotted eagle ray and a good variety of different types of coral. We spend about 2 wks every summer with our boat and kids in Marathon. Our 2 favorite snorkel spots are Sombrero Reef and Looe Key. For us, (NON-LOCALS ALERT!!!), Looe Key has a much more oceanic feel to it than Sombrero does. It certainly seems deeper and much more "open".
