We came to Jacksonville Beach in May after a visit to Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA. We figured since we were already so close to the Florida state line, we may as well take a trip to the closest beach. This was our first visit to Jacksonville Beach and the first thing we noticed was the lack of high rise...

We are used to beaches of Panama City, Destin, Pensacola, etc ... the ones on the gulf coast ... so when we got to Jacksonville Beach, we were surprised to find that the sand on the beach there is pretty much compacted. You can even drive & ride a bicycle on it. There was a sand castle building contest while...

white sand, flat beach, easy access, free parking, waves break out a ways so it's easy to wade or swim. Since it's 15 minutes from home, I return often.
If you are visiting, please do yourself a favor and go and stick your toes in the sand at Jacksonville Beach. The beach is kept up very nicely and lifeguards are adequate to make it safe. However, if there is a red-flag warning stay out of the surf.
The sand is marvelous and feels so good on your feet. It...
