One of the older buildings redesigned as a live theater and movie theater. The stage is surrounded on three sides by about 15 rows of seats. So everyone gets a great view and personal connection with the actors. The productions are very well done. The shows are very inexpensive for the quality.

I have been with my wife and kids a number of times. The plays are great. The building looks great on the outside and is unique on the inside. The seating for the plays could use some work but I can understand that is difficult on limited funds. The experience of seeing a live performance in the relatively small area... More

I was looking for a place to take a girl I had recently started seeing. She said she wanted to go to a movie but I wanted something special. I had heard of the Hipp on my local NPR station and decided to give it a try. Parking was easy and for Gainesville area that’s saying something. I enjoy independent... More

This old post office has been renovated as a venue for theater and film. Really enjoyed the show. The seats were comfortable, and every one had a good view

This is a wonderful treasure here in Gainesville! Intimate setting, great entertainment! I've seen 4 or 5 productions here so far. Dinner beforehand, a good show, great way to spend an evening!

We saw 'Tuna Christmas' ... I thought the building was beautiful from the outside, but inside it was kinda outdated. The performance was fine I guess (I'm no theatre critic so I'll leave that part to the pros) but evidently there is a bar that serves drinks and you can drink in the audience- so the theatre smelled like beer.... This is a fascinating piece of historical architecture housing a theater with a central stage surrounded by seats on three sides. One is very close to the actors and action on stage so be sure you carefully select which production you see - this is the key. We thought seeing a local Christmas production on opening night would be fun.... More

The "Hipp" is in a great location in the heart of the city. Great restaurants and bars to walk to. The main stage is a three quarter round configuration which gives you great seating anywhere you are. It does not seat a lot, so you are close to the stage wherever you sit. The performances are always top-notch. They also... More

Every production that I have seen here has been first rate. Additionally, they screen cinemas that are not available elsewhere. Combine that with an extremely helpful first-rate staff, a beautiful antique building, and more than reasonable pricing, and you are set for an enjoyable evening.

First time ever at this place and I loved it! It's very small inside which gives you a very "personal" connection with the actors. I highly recommend it!
