A 3.5 hour ferry ride beats a 7-8 hour drive to Key West, but pack your patience. The boarding process is lengthy (arrive as early as possible), the engines are loud (upper deck is preferable), the food is microwave hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, soft pretzel, popcorn, etc, and overpriced... pack a brown bag. The line to get on the boat... More

We took the Key West Express ferry from ft Myers to key west for a long weekend. I highly recommend. Only 3 hours by boat, it's big, it's comfortable, they have a full bar with food, and we could all sit together and enjoy our friends company while we made our way to key west. Awesome time!

A day trip to Key West to scout out B&B's for a future stay. Up early for the 0830 departure from the Ft Myers Beach terminal. Plenty of comfortable seats. Those who arrived first got tables by the window or seats at the bar. Ouch, early for 3 1/2 hours at the bar that time of morning. The boat is... More

In theory it sounds great...board the boat! ride for 3 hours! Enjoy a day in Key West! Scenic and fun! WRONG. We arrived at 7am...most of the better seats were already taken...the boat leaves at 8:30 so there's over an hour wasted. The boat is noisy. It's nearly impossible to walk around if the weather is rough. Then there's the... More

Early arrival is a good idea as we are currently in high season and commonly booked to capacity. In regard to the smell, we are confused as our vessels are professionally cleaned each evening. Of the 3 decks, only the very back exterior section of the lowermost deck is available for smokers. This area contains no passenger seating whatsoever. Two... More

This is a fantastic way to get to Key West. Staff was friendly and professional. They show a movie on the trip to help pass the time. Some of the seats are outside, so you may want to arrive early to get indoors.

Decided to try the Key West express for something different to do while in Fort Myers. I should have read reviews first. The trip over to Key West wasn't bad as we arrived at the boat by 7:10 for an 8:30 departure. We were able to get an inside seat. It was a 4 hour trip,so we arrived Key West... More

Another case of if you are not an American you get special treatment. Waited in line 3 hours for return trip , was told get in line early for best seating , when time to board here comes a group that gets to board before us, no waiting for them, was told they couldn't speak English so they could board first... Did this tour last year.... The trip down was cool , temperature wise ... So bring hoodies jogging pants and a towel or blanket to wrap up in... I stayed outside the whole trip....the boat was clean and somewhat comfortable...... The trip takes 4.25 hours so for those who like to be entertained, take cards, a book, games etc anything...
