I'd suggest going before 3pm, that way you could possibly see the whole grounds since there are three tours. The lab tour is very short (~15 minutes) the estate tour is an hour and a half, and the gardens... i'm not sure. You can do self guided tours with audio keys pushing in numbers to hear the facts at each... more

I have been here several times. It is the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. It is amazing all that you will learn about their lives here. It is really nice in the winter because they decorate that houses and streets with lights. more

You can see the second largest Banyan tree and sort of tour the winter homes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. You can't enter most of the houses. Visitors are only permitted to view a single level from roped off areas. Also, parts of the property are under construction and cannot be viewed. It's interesting to see how advanced Edison's... more

Henry Ford bought some land in Fort Myers to experiment with semi-tropical materials and get away from the Michigan winters. He later talked Thomas Alva Edison, a friend and personal admirer, to move into the house that Ford owned next door. Both are lionized as geniuses and paragons of the American Industrial age (as is typical of such exhibits). Their... more

I will say that my wife and I are glad we went, but WOW the admission fee of $20 per is steep. We decided to take the audio self tour and I think we took the better option. We could then go at our own pace and stop and look when we wanted to. The grounds were in good shape,... more

Refurbishment is completed. Be sure to take guided tour (no extra charge) which provides much detail, and puts things in perspective. Guided tour lasts about 35 minutes. You can see everything in about 90 minutes. Well maintained attraction, helpful staff. Interesting, and a great value. more

I took the home/gardens/lab tour and was impressed. Before I took the tour, I looked into the museum and watched some videotapes they had running. The tapes were great and gave some very good information about Edison, Ford, and the estates. Very knowlegable tour guides. I was able to look inside both homes and get some photos. The grounds are... more

No wonder this over-publicized tourist trap didn't give out entrance fee information on their website!! The $9 tour mentioned in an earlier review was gone when our family of four visited this place in October 2006. We almost backed out when seeing the current admission fee of $20 -- and probably should have. The most impressive part was definitely the... more

We toured the Edison/Ford Estate on Dec 27,2005- a very crowded day with a 20 minute line to buy tickets from one very busy cashier. The parking lot, museum and laboratory are one side of the street, the actual estate is across the street on the water. Unfortunately the buildings have been extensively restored and now resemble new construction designed... more

Yes, the Banyan Tree is really magificent. However, you can just pull into the parking lot and see it among others right along the parking area, without paying for any attractions. We took really neat pictures of the trees. The tour part is really pretty good, especially for seniors. It was not geared towards kids at all, but for us... more
