When I first visited the site in the early 70's there was a trailer park adjacent to this site. Very strange combination. It was hard to find and not a tourist destination. Then the State took over and it's a nice way to gather some local history. Now it's a National Historic Landmark. It's a 61-acre, pre-Columbian, Native American site... More

This park's office/museum (as of this review) is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I felt as though I missed a lot of interpretation of the mounds are other areas along the wonder full trail as there were no park rangers (or anyone) to explain what we were experiencing. Non-the-less, we had a good time. The trails are paved and it... More

The park was built around an Indian Burial Mounds, you first go into the info center then walk the grounds, nice place to visit.

I took my 11yr old niece here today as she's an "Indiana Jones" freak, and talks about wanting to be an Archaeologist. Is it an amusement park? Will your kids be thrilled and excited? No and No. Yet...it's a great place to learn a little of Florida history. There's a little museum with some artifacts, but talk to the Volunteer... More

Because we read the history of the region beforehand, my husband and I enjoyed our walk through the Crystal River Archaeological Site. We climbed to the top of the ceremonial ground and envisioned the native Americans chanting in sorrow or dancing in celebration. Nearby, the burial grounds commanded our respect and silent reflections of a great people and their lives... More

My husband and I visited in the summer. It was a neat site and reminded us of the Indian sites in other parts of the state where mounds where built upon discarded shells from food etc. We saw a manatee from the shore. Free experience. You will defidently learn something from the visitor center.

It's best to pop into the small museum here before setting out on foot to explore the archeological features. There's a short video. There are some artifacts, like pottery and arrowheads. A six-mound complex is situated here. There are midden mounds and burial mounds. We scaled the 51 steps to the top of the Temple Mound. The observation platform there... More

Small museum with movie and a nice docent who gave us a short tour inside. Beautiful views of the river. Walk around and walk to the top of the shell mound for more feel of the Calusa people who lived here.

A nice afternoon trip for a little history lesson! Bring water and some snacks and enjoy the picnic tables at the far end by the temple mound.
