Short of touring one of the grand estates of Newport RI or England; Nemours may be our best glimpse into what living the gilded life was like...very much like the fictional Downton Abbey. It is also very reminiscent of Versailles palace, although it was built in 1913. Gorgeous mansion and manicured gardens are a necessary stop when visiting the Mid... More

We were here in October when the exhibits from Downton Abbey were on display. We had a short tour of the mansion which is really extraordinary. Reminded us of Buckingham Palace. A shuttle took us on a tour of the gardens. We really enjoyed the childrens area but the entire estate is well worth seeing

I never expected anything so grand. 75 rooms, 47,000 square feet, this mansion is beautiful. You will think that you are in a European mansion. This mansion was left as it was when the last resident vacated it. When you arrive at the visitors center, first you see a short film. Then they bus you up to the mansion in... More

We tried to visit this on a Sunday afternoon, arriving 10 minutes or so before the tour started. The group that was waiting was very small and we were told that it was full and that we would have to come back or wait in the car park for the later tour. To put it mildly the receptionist was haughty

Just to add a few comments to CinKS excellent review from 10/12. Although the displays at the visitors center are interesting, there is absolutely nothing else to do if you arrive early. If you take the 3 o'clock tour, the center is closed when the bus returns, even if you don't walk the grounds. Our choice was to either return... More

The house and furnishings are well worth seeing (unfortunately, our guide was a grouch). There is also a nice collection of cars (if you like vintage Rolls Royces).

The efforts of the staff, volunteers and foundation continue to make this one of the premier tributes to the Duponts and the industrial history of the US and Delaware. But this is much more than a mansion and one family's history. It is a a museum and art gallery that celebrates some of the best art and artifacts of both... More

This is a very beautiful home and gardens and the tours are very well organized. The visitor center is excellent and I suggest spending some time there before getting on the bus to the home. You will end at the Visitor Center so you can spend time there after your tour too. After watching a movie in the Visitor's Center,... More

This was a fabulous mansion and adjoining gardens...it's like going to France for the day! The tour is excellent. They broke up our group of 24 into smaller groups within the house for the tour. You go to the visitor center first and go to the mansion by a little shuttle bus! After the house tour there is a tram... More

I just completed my first trip to the Wilmington, Delaware region, and had no idea they had so much to offer in terms of cultural experiences. With so many options and so few days, we decided to spend our last day touring Nemours Mansion and Gardens. Unlike many mansions open to the public, Nemours is not a museum filled only... More
