The refuge is an easy walk from the Westin Hotel. We visited twice, first near dusk and then at midday the next day. The trail to the refuge climbs to a tower that houses the education center -- the views from the tower are wonderful. One can then take a stairway or elevator to the bottom of the tower, which... A lovely sanctuary right in town, a great morning walk before hitting the gym, also on the Riverfront. Great for Birders too!

Since the marsh was cleaned up for this refuge, we are having wildlife visitors from here come into the neighborhoods...hawks, ground hogs, racoons. It's a nice walk for the grandchildren. Have not been over when the building is open...so all I can vouch for are the outside surroundings which are great!

Awesome additon to the Riverfront area. great place to take your walk/run, nice circular boardwalk winding through the marshes, lookout for local wildlife as you exercise. Mr. Peterson is surely smiling down on this wonderful hidden gem.

I really nice walk and an enjoyable lunchtime retreat to get a little fresh air and exercise. The grounds are very nice and easy to navigate.

The refuge is at the south end of the Wilmington Riverwalk. There's some nice landscaping at the entrance, an interesting education building, and a short boardwalk in a circle through the marsh. Most of the refuge's land is inaccessible marshland. Stop by if you're already walking along the river but it's not worth making it a destination by itself.

We walked the boardwalk slowly (15 minutes) and saw two ducks and a lot of weeds. After seeing the amazing gardens of some of the Dupont homes, this was not much to see.

Our grandchildren, ages 3 and 7, love to come here to explore nature. The staff are child friendly and talk to them on their level so they understand the way many animals and other creatures live, eat, etc. It's fun for them to spot the different birds and animals in the area. There are a few "hands on" items in... More

It's a nice place for a peaceful walk along the river and around the marsh on a boardwalk they built right in the marshland. You can see many different types of turtles and birds and they do have some small exhibits set up in the building itself. It is easily accessible from I-95 and they do have restrooms on location.
