It's a nice park and the tower is pretty if you catch it the right part of the day, but Delaware has a lot of good parks and this isn't one to go out of your way for.
Just a park with a tower. Go there to relax but don't go there thinking that it's a tourist attraction.
We came on a night when there was a concert in the park and the tower was open. 132 steps were manageable even for our 3 year old. At the top there were great views of the surroundings. The park is beautiful. A place where you can walk peacefully and listen to the breeze blow through the trees, ponder your life and grapple with whatever is on your mind. I've been going to this park since being a little kid, and it still provides a place to walk quietly and reflect.
I think that Rockford Tower has been romanticized in more paintings and photographs than any other structure in Wilmington. It is an icon, both literally and figuratively. Rockford Park is a special place. So peaceful. I enjoy exercising and practicing laughing yoga there in the outdoors every Monday morning at 10 am near the lower gazebo. It's open to everyone and it's free. It lasts about 30 minutes. I just show up and and enjoy the laughs all year long. Nice group of people who welcome everyone.
Basketball, softball, and kickball at the bottom of the hill, the winding hill up to the Tower for that early morning jog, the big field for soccer or ultimate frisbee at the top of the hill, sledding in the winter. Rockford Park offers a nice escape within the city. We especially like biking or walking the paths, but the dog park seems to be the place to be.
