This city park’s early use was as an artillery fortification to protect the city from attacks by enemy ships venturing up the Delaware River.

Today, it is a peaceful park with scenic panoramic views of the Delaware Memorial Bridge, Pennsville Township, NJ, and New Jersey's shoreline. It has a paved trail for walking, running, jogging, and mountain or street bicycling. Other activities include picnicking, catch-and-release fishing, and wildlife watching. There is also a small sandy beach and a playground. The park is dog-friendly.

During my visit, I enjoyed a stroll in part of the park and the riverfront area where I took a few photos.

I found Battery Park to be a very relaxing place. I found a gal running and a guy relaxing at a picnic table overlooking the river.

The Separation Day celebration, commemorating the political independence of Delaware from Pennsylvania, is held annually here in mid-June. There are other events during other months. It looks like a good place for an outdoor summer concert series.

Most of this park is wheelchair accessible.

My family and I were walking around the park after lunch and happened to see the historic boat Kalmar Nyckel on the water. It was really beautiful and interesting to see, even though we didn't buy tickets to actually take a ride.

I just love visiting Battery Park. The walking trail along the water is simply breathtaking. It is usually quiet and clean even during the summer peak times. Walkers/runners are typically very friendly and courteous on the trail. I love watching any sailboats or tall ships that are in the area.

There are so many parks in Delaware, but one of my favorite is Battery Park. Despite the erosion along the river and the pier being blown away by Hurricane Sandy, the park is still gorgeous. Crews have worked tirelessly to fix erosion issues, to maintain the playground area, and to make sure visitors have adequate seating, sun room, and sand space.

There is a long path that has just been repaved that follows the beautifully scenic waterfront of the Delaware River. There is a sailing club. There are a couple sandy areas that folks fish at and kids play in the sand. (It is STRONGLY suggested not to eat anything you catch or to swim in the Delaware River. It may even be prohibited.)There are tennis courts, there is a children's playground with lots of equipment. There are benches and tables. There is a lookout that overlooks the Delaware River. There are concerts every now and then. Biking, walking, running, and the like are all great options on your visit.

We've never had a problem with mean dogs, mean kids, or mean people. We love this park!

The walking path is nearly 4 miles I think. It is near the river and winds it's way through the landscape. There are picnic tables and a playground, tennis courts, and parking. There are a few restaurants in the area that are small and accomodating.

Great walking along the Delaware Rive in old Colonial New Castle. The place is great just before sunset with the cool river breezes.

Battery Park, New Castle, DE is supposed to be the place where William Penn (of Pennsylvania) originally landed in America in 1682. It is surrounded by "Old New Castle," a a town with many historical buildings with restoration highly regulated. The park is along side the Delaware river, South of the 295 Delaware Memorial Bridge. One can see easily see New Jersey from the shore.

My fiancee and I have gone here often to take a walk and relax. The park also has playground equipment and picnic tables. There are tennis courts adjacent but they may not belong to the park. There is a launching area for boats. I'm not a boater but I'm sure you have to call someone first before going out from here. Parking is usually easy to come by if you know the location of the parking areas. Parking is free. Like many older cities/areas, old New Castle has a maze of roads so you have to know where you're going to get to the lots. During "Separation Day", the holiday during which certain Delawareans celebrate our state's June 15, 1776 separation from Pennsylvania, the park is very crowded. I believe the town has attractions on this "holiday."

Most of the year, Battery Park is a great, beautiful place to take a walk, walk your dog, or have a picnic if you know how to get to it.
