Under the artistic... more » Owner description: Reimagining itself in recent years, Westport Country Playhouse is rapidly emerging as a nationally recognized professional theater. Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos and management direction of Michael Ross, the Playhouse creates five live theater experiences, produced at the highest level, from April through November. Its vital mix of works---dramatic, comedic, occasionally exploratory and unusual---expands the audience’s sense of what theater can be. The depth and scope of its productions display the foremost theatrical literature from the past---recent as well as distant---in addition to musicals and premieres of new plays. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. Winter at the Playhouse, from November through March, offers events outside of the main season---Family Festivities presentations, Script in Hand play readings and a Holiday Festival. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers

“Fully recovered”

We have been Westport residents for 34 years. For years we subscribed to the Playhouse. The shows were light funny and well produced. The theater was funky but the shows were fun. “Easier than going to NYC”

The playhouse has never disappointed me. Even when the show itself isn't great, the productions usually are.

“Great theater, wonderful production!”

We've been subscribers for about five years. Although we've enjoyed some productions more than others, they are all consistently well directed and staged, with first-rate actors. “First rate theater in the suburbs”

Over the years we have seen many outstanding plays at The Westport County Playhouse that rival any play on Broadway. The theater is very intimate and the performances and choice of plays are first rate. An added caveat is Paul Newman's Dressing Room Restaurant next door and ample parking at the door step of both facilities.

“Plays and old time Ambiance and The History”

“Best Nutcracker I've Seen...”

This was by far my favorite Nutcracker performance- the director truly presented a playful yet sophisticated version of it. Costumes and sets were great. Thanks for visiting the Playhouse! We are pleased to host community events like The Nutcracker throughout the year. “Westport Playhouse productions are something you need to experience.”

The Westport Playhouse offers top flight productions with casts you will recognize and appreciate. The quality rivals Broadway without the hassel of going there and, at a fraction of the price. I have never been disappointed in one of their productions.
