Description: Reimagining itself in recent years, Westport Country Playhouse is rapidly...
Reimagining itself in recent years, Westport Country Playhouse is rapidly emerging as a nationally recognized professional theater. Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos and management direction of Michael Ross, the Playhouse creates five live theater experiences, produced at the highest level, from April through November. Its vital mix of works---dramatic, comedic, occasionally exploratory and unusual---expands the audience’s sense of what theater can be. The depth and scope of its productions display the foremost theatrical literature from the past---recent as well as distant---in addition to musicals and premieres of new plays. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. Winter at the Playhouse, from November through March, offers events outside of the main season---Family Festivities presentations, Script in Hand play readings and a Holiday Festival. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers

What a great fine in our own neighborhood!

The facility has been revamped since the last time we went. Very comfortable and worth going back to.

excellent facility and they often have food tasting along with the play. Read advertising to find. Plays are uneven and tend to be older ones. Acting is professional and well done

I made my first visit to the area and decided to take in a play. I was extremely impressed. The website allows you to see what the view will be from the seats you've selected. The staging and acting were top notch and the play was thoroughly enjoyable. If I return to this area I will definitely attend another production.... More

Thhis legitimate theater, backed by Westport residents Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, consistently puts on outstanding plays. The auditoriium was renovated a few years ago; seats and sight lines are better. Subscriptions are available at the beginning of each season. The parking lot is large enough. Definitely worth going to.

We have been going for over 20 years. Infract we are going again tonight. The productions are always professional and usually great. Every once in a while it is just good. Since Joanne Woodward got involved it has reached new levels of success. The building was redone a few years back but it is definite 'Summer Stock" with great productions.

The productions are wonderful. The theater is just the right size. For a local Playhouse,it is a very fine season. There is a new Italian restaurant opening right on the grounds in a few weeks.

Comedy, drama, an occasional musical, programs for children, script-in-hand readings, Westport Playhouse has it all. A world class theater with world class actors, playwrights, and directors. Subscribers for the regular season get special perks but you can buy individual tickets if you prefer. When you go, take a look at the impressive wall of past production posters.

The westport playhouse has been a staple of westport for decades. The productions are always first rate but whether you enjoy the production can often depend on your taste and the type of theatre you prefer. Since the ground up renovation a few years ago The facility is a great blend of modern construction and comfort with a traditional historic... More

The season opening play for the Playhouse is the Liar, an adaptation by David ives of a 1600s play modernized for today's audience. The Liar does not require a lot of thought. In fact, you are better off simply laughing at the hundreds of jokes and the easy-to-follow farcical plot. I saw the play on Opening Night which made it... More

What a Beautiful Theater created out of a mans love for his community and man kind. I wish more people were like Mr. Newman as he is a rarity. Years ago when Balduccis was Hay day Market my then 8 year old daughter was pushing a cart with 6 Newmans own Pop corn on the top. Paul was in the... More
