Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos and management direction of Michael Ross, the Playhouse creates five live theater experiences, produced at the highest level, from April through November. Its vital mix of works---dramatic, comedic, occasionally exploratory and unusual---expands the audience’s sense of what theater can be. The depth and scope of its productions display the foremost theatrical literature from the past---recent as well as distant---in addition to musicals and premieres of new plays. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. Winter at the Playhouse, from November through March, offers events outside of the main season---Family Festivities presentations, Script in Hand play readings and a Holiday Festival. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers « less

Westport Country Playhouse is excellent - and the renovated theater is spacious and lovely. There are many excellent restaurants in town for pre-theater dining.

Westport Playhouse has been around for almost as long as I have been and still continues to thrill locals. I saw "Things we do for love" over the weekend at the theater and it was outstanding. The theater is a small venue, cosy, easily accessible for challenged persons. It is recommended that if one wants a libation during the intermission,... More

We went to a Sunday matinee here, and it was wonderful. I'm speaking about more than the play, which was very good as well. The venue is fairly small, but comfortable. On the driveway in, I noticed the wonderful landscaping, and then the parking attendants, who were highly efficient, directed us to a space. The "will-call" windows were crowded, but... More

While every production is not a home run, there are enough base hits to make the Westport Country Playhouse worth attending and supporting. The Actors have performed on Broadway, on television and in regional theater, the sets are outstanding and the shows are professionally directed. The playhouse is comfortable and charming. The script in hand readings are a treat and... More

Alan Ayckbourn is an English playwright who nver fails to entertain. This play at the Westport Copntyry Playhouse is no exception. It's a great production with laughs from begining to end. I've seen lots of Ayckbourn plays and this one was one of the best. It's a four character play with plenty of character development for each actor. they were... More

Even though we live close to the Westport Playhouse, I had only been there one time many, many years ago. I could hardly recognize it now! It has been so updated and improved. The physical plant is beautiful. It retains its rustic character but is so much better. The show we saw was called "Sing for Your Shakespeare", and it... More

No bad seats in Westport County Playhouse, and first rate entertainment. Also, easy in and out with many eating options nearby. Never a disappointment.

I love this place... I've been here for three shows and I love the place. It's a rather intimate venue so you're never too far from the stage. The talent is Broadway quality, at least the productions I've attended so you're sure to get a quality experience. If you've never been it is very difficult to find as it is... More

I first attended The Westport Playhouse 60 years ago on my first date with my husband of almost 60 years. I was living then in Westchester, but we have made our home in Westport for the past 55 years. The playhouse has had its ups and downs, but, overall, it has been up, and the past few seasons have been... More
