Reimagining itself in recent years, Westport Country Playhouse is rapidly emerging as a nationally recognized professional theater. Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos and management direction of Michael Ross, the Playhouse creates five live theater experiences, produced at the highest level, from April through November. Its vital mix of works---dramatic, comedic, occasionally exploratory and unusual---expands the audience’s sense of what theater can be. The depth and scope of its productions display the foremost theatrical literature from the past---recent as well as distant---in addition to musicals and premieres of new plays. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. Winter at the Playhouse, from November through March, offers events outside of the main season---Family Festivities presentations, Script in Hand play readings and a Holiday Festival. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers

The renovation of this venerable and lovely theater was completed a few years ago- spearheaded by Joanne Woodward and the late Paul Newman, among others. It is now a pretty, charming and comfortable 500-seat theater that still manages, in its design, to reflect what was its original barn-like esthetic. It is a nice regional theater with an award-winning Artistic Director.... More

Great live theatre in the lively suburb of Westport. Broadway revivals, original plays, musical performances take place in a recently renovated, yet historic building with all the amenities and sight lines of a modern performance space.

This is first-class theatre in a smaller, more intimate setting. The late Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward have left a legacy of superb professional theatre through their years of steering productions and extremely generous donations of their time, effort, professional expertise, and money. An enduring legacy of these great actors, a living testament to the love of fine... More

We had the pleasure of seeing our first performance at the playhouse. The view from the seats was very good. The theater itself has lots of charm. But the true highlight is the quality of the performance. Saw Broken Glass and was find the acting and staging excellent. We have signed up for the 2016 season and look forward to... More

This is now the "old Positano" but with a new and revised menu. The menu is quite extensive and will have something for everyone but, the evening that we went the service was very slow and with a 6:15 reservation and the restaurant wasn't full we just made the 8:00 show.

Broad mix of plays. Some are amazing, some are total and complete, perplexing garbage. We just got back from Broken Glass, an old Arthur Miller play. VERY well acted. Not so well written (Sorry Arthur). Bottom line, the best seats in the house are cheap, and if it's close to home, go there. But don't come from NYC you will... More

I have seen many plays at the Westport Country Play over the years and highly recommend this venue to everyone. Every season they have assorted theatrical events and it seems there is something for a variety of audiences. I live in the next town, so for me it is wonderful, and I don't have to take the train into NYC... More

Westport Country playhouse offers enjoyable, high quality theater-- comedy, tragedy, farce and musicals-- for adults and children in a renovated barn surrounded by a garden. It is a treat to attend their offerings, which are usually successful and often quite wonderful. Their "Bedroom Farce" which was the last play we saw was very well done and hilarious. Having a subscription... More
