Very nice place for picnic, walk on beach, or watch a couple get married. Or stroll through the gardens. Or even fly a kite. Fun to just sit and watch the huge kites flying or watch the waves come in.

Harkness has long been a sanctuary for people in these parts. It is an almost Gatsby-esque mansion on Long Island Sound, but the bigger attractions are the fabulous gardens and the wide lawns stretching to the sea.

Hardness is a beautiful state park that is located in Waterford, CT right on the water of Long Island Sound. There is a beautiful mansion that can be rented out for functions. During the summer and fall the gardens are gorgeous. There are picnic tables and grills to use for picnics. Bring your own charcoal for the grills. There is... More

You can do anything on this beautiful park overlooking Long Island Sound. Take a tour of the historic Eolia, which means wind in Greek. The Friends of Harkness has restored this beautiful mansion to its former glory. Great place to picnic, walk, run and fly kites! Many picnic tables and grills to use.

Its great place to take a walk, get fresh air, relax after busy day, picnic with friends and family (has bunch of tables and benches, grills). It has the best view of ocean in the area! Its free when Summer season its over. It has huge space to run around too!

but fyi no crowds because swimming is not allowed. Beautiful setting for a picnic, reading a book, or seeing the mansion and gardens - visiting one of the state's gems. Fee only between June and labor day, I believe.

It's a wonderful place to go and relax with tons of space to sprawl out and explore with a friend or your dog! It's so relaxing by the sea! Just have a nice picnic and enjoy the views and sea! I love going here! Many many times!

Harkness is a SECT hidden gem. Down some windy roads; you find yourself pulling into a large fielded entryway. There are acres of beautifully manicured grasses to picnic or dream on. Just a short walk from the lawn is a white sandy beach. It's great for families, couples and those looking for some inward relaxation.

Such a beautiful place to visit, but can get very very crowded, especially on a warm summer's day....the mansion tour was great, and the grounds and gardens are beautiful. But go early, and I mean early, if you want to find a picnic table....we had our picnic in the car with the doors open...that's how crowded it was...other than that,... More
