You can relax and soak up the unique atmosphere with a great cup of coffee or a light meal in The Shires Rest Cafe, which is also available for functions, conferences or other occasions. Visit The Shire Store (below the cafe) for some special souvenirs to remind you of your visit. « less

Hobbiton it's an amazing place to visit either you've seen the Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit or not. The landscape, the fairy tale houses, the lake, the Green Dragon. You feel in a dream land. The guided tour is nice and gives a lots of facts about the making of the films. The tour also has a great... More

It was just brilliant to be able to walk around this live set on a crisp Winter morning. Our guide was from Brighton, UK and was very knowledgable. Five full time gardeners keep the set in perfect condition and you're able to meander through the shire at your own pace, looking at the Hobbits home and guessing their trade. The... More

Great place to check out The Shire and see where the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed. The tour is expensive, but you see a lot and it includes a free drink at the bar at the end. Plenty of opportunities to take photos as well. Try and get in non-peak season to avoid the mass of... More

Every detail has been thought of at this location and with how the tours are organized. Well done! Loved every minute of being there. It is so worth the trek!

An essential visit whether a LoTR fan or not. Brilliantly entertaining tour which makes you realise the lengths that film producers go to. The set itself is amazing (even in pouring rain) and is worth visiting just for the beautiful countryside around it.

Great place to visit, although would have liked to have spent more time here but were rushed around by the guides.

I have always wanted to go & see the Hobbiton Movie set and had the opportunity recently by taking a young German girl who was woofing with us. Firstly it was a pleasant surprise to find I could go for free by purchasing a local card & taking a full paying other!!! Bonus!!! It was a fine but chilly day... More

We have become great fans of LOTR and Hobbits since we started travelling to New Zealand and have seen some of the truly amazing and spectacular scenery of quite a few of the locations around Queenstown, Glenorchy, Paradise and now the fabulous movie set "Hobbiton". We had seen a brochure showing the set and were quite excited about this tour.... More

Reading through the reviews on here I was to say a little edgy on booking the trip, however we got to matamata and looked at the visitor centre. We booked it and thought hey if its nothing else its another taste of New Zealand. We booked it $75 an adult seemed a bit pricey but we left at 9.30. We... More

If you ever visit New Zealand, you must see this place! Hobbiton village was absolutely beautiful and Emma, our guide told so many amazing stories about the film shootings. Totally recommend!
