Description: Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland...
Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand, where you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in a fascinating two-hour guided tour. The set has been completely rebuilt and will remain as it was seen in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. There are spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which is still a working sheep and beef farm.As the Hobbiton Movie Set is located on a real New Zealand farm, we also offer you the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lambs. You can relax and soak up the unique atmosphere with a great cup of coffee or a light meal in The Shires Rest Cafe, which is also available for functions, conferences or other occasions. Visit The Shire Store (below the cafe) for some special souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

Yes I am a LOTR and The Hobbit Fan so perhaps my review is bias, never the less! We booked the 4:15PM call time at the I-SITE centre at Matamata there is a free shuttle to and from Hobbiton. Same price if you were to meet at the Hobbiton gates, so if you are not sure where to go, its... More

This is a must do, I went for the 3rd visit in Jan 15, and since I had been twice before I wasn't expecting much but wow it was awesome, since they had filmed the hobbit, it looked completely different to the previous time I had been, the whole set was intact and we could even go for a drink... tour guide and tour bus drivers, very knowledgeable, ? how the original site found to final development of the attraction. 2 hours tour seemed a bit rushed. but good flow allowed for a good tour.

As an avid fan of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, it was exciting to be 'on set' in 'Middle Earth'. I have been lucky enough to work & be on other T.V & Movie Sets, but they were well...'sanitized', this was 'earthy' and right there to feel, smell, hear and see. Peter Jackson remains a visionary and we... More

As pretty as it looks in the movies, great tour guide. Wonderful photos. Great value for money. Nothing to dislike, even if your not a hobbit fan.

This tour isn't just for LOTR fans. I'll be honest here, I'm not a big LOTR fan myself! My husband is what I'll call a moderate fan :) We flew in to Auckland and landed SUPER early, like 5 am early, and had a whole day to get to our B&B which was only a couple hours from the airport.... More

Price for the entry might discourage you, but it's just worth it. The set is like walking into a fairy land, not like a set. The explanations and little details of the guide are fun to know (even for non-LOTR fans!), and the sights are out of this world. It'd be a miss to go all this way to NZ... More

I have recently been upto Hobbiton with Sir George Seymour college Dunedin and dan was our tour guide who showed us around. He really added to our whole diploma campus feel to the activity. He made it very exciting and sounded more interested in us about showing us around hobbiton. I think Dan is a asset to the company, i... More

This attraction was better than I thought because I'm not a hard core Hobbit fan but I realised you don't need to be to enjoy yourself. It was interesting to hear about all the effort that was and is involved and to see the holes where the famous Hobbits lived. The tour guide was experienced and knew his stuff and... More
