The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

We went on the evening feast tour, which I can tell you now, was worth every penny! We had two really enthusiastic hosts (a blonde lady and 'the other sam') who really sold the whole experience. They were full of tips and facts and didn't rush anyone at all. They also took loads of photos for people, and were just... More

If you are the big fan of LOTR, this place don't be miss in your list. The place and our tour guide is amazing. There are few hobbit holes in the set which you can't actually go inside. It's a real fun when our tour guide telling about the move's scene. The tour is about 2 hours for the movie... More

I'm not (yet) an LOTR fan, but to know the little tidbits and facts about the location and filiming was exciting. The hobbit holes and the entire area has been well-kept so it was just beautiful. Must try the ginger beer and beef pie at the green dragon inn!

This trip was with our Probus Group and the 25 of us were just in awe of this place. Only about 4 of the group had either read the book or seen the Movie. Our guide Marissa was awesome and the scenery and gardens delightful. Would recommend to anyone hesitant of going to think again as we had a few... More

What a wonderfull morning! A family's farm which is very beautiful with it's green rolling hills speckled with white sheep. Once we are at the movie set, there are a multitude of hobbit holes to look at. I think there are about 40 holes, but it seems like many more. The attention to detail is terrific.Lunch at the green dragon... More

After being on time for the bus and very much excited about seeing Hobbiton, the bus drove around Rotorua for the next hour picking up people. I was very annoyed by this and my excitement was waneing. And then another hour to finally get there. From here it was RUSH RUSH RUSH till the end. Our guide was Sunny with... More

Thank god we were there in the low season. We had enough space and time to explore all around the little earth holes. Our tour guide was good and understandable and gave us a lot of small side infos (at least when you were going with her in the front). The tour end in the Dragon Pub was nice. The... More

We booked an early access tour via Bush and Beach, and if you can it is absolutely worth it! We were the first ones in Hobbiton on the day, and were able to experience the peace of being the only people there and witnessing the "behind the scenes" of all the work by gardeners and other maintenance staff required to... We went on the 4pm tour and had a great time, however we wished we had gone in the morning as the morning sun would make for far better pictures. In the late afternoon sun much of Hobbiton is backlit or shadow ridden making for poor pictures both with mobile and DSLR.

We had a great guide David, who explained all the bits and pieces of the set and how it came to be. It truly is amazing the money spent on developing this facade for a few minutes in the film.I agree with others that for the money too many people are being pushed through to maximize revenue,no time to stop...
