Owner description: Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand, where you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in a fascinating two-hour guided tour. The set has been completely rebuilt and will remain as it was seen in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. There are spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which is still a working sheep and beef farm.As the Hobbiton Movie Set is located on a real New Zealand farm, we also offer you the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lambs. You can relax and soak up the unique atmosphere with a great cup of coffee or a light meal in The Shires Rest Cafe, which is also available for functions, conferences or other occasions. Visit The Shire Store (below the cafe) for some special souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

Was really like the movie. Crew works hard to keep it authentic and well maintained. For a tourist place, it isn't over crowded and staff member are very friendly. And to top it all off, got a good mug of apple cider.

Now for those of you that read this, you may already be aware of this. I was not and neither were the 20-odd other people on the tour. Yes, I had a fair understanding that some of the homes were just props but I at least expected to be able to enter and have a tour of Bilbo Baggins house... More

I still give it 5 stars because my wife and I had an absolute kick. Fresh from rereading the novels and watching the films, the movie set is stunningly surreal once you set foot. It's hard to believe it's just a set. With the gardens and plant life, there's an amazing smell to the area, which adds to the authenticity.... More

I tried to book Romney package for myself, my husband and two sons. As we were travelling from UK I wanted to book the tour in advance. It was a nighmare booking online. I rang the number from the website to book it and I was told that only one person deals with the booking and she was off for... More

The place is boring, and with expensive price. The service is slow, rude and unwecomed. Emailed them on 17 sep 2014 till now still not yet have reply to my enquiries. In between this time I email to ask how come no reply, they were just simply not interested to help.

As a huge LOTR fan i was very excited to visit the hobbiton set,i left feeling a little disappointed. The set itself is amazing and exactly like you see in the film, although somehow it does seem smaller in real life but definitly worth a visit if you are a huge fan but there are a few thing that let it... Such a beautiful place to visit - so green and all those rolling hills. I rent a car and drove to from Auckland to Matamata & had lunch there then drove to the Movie set. The tour cost $75 per person, it's expensive but must visit. If you're going with a few people, hire a car for a day is... More

This tour was far better than expected. Although the groups were large, the guide was very patient and kept things moving along well. The whole place is just amazing, with fabulous photo opportunities appreciated by fans and non-fans alike. Our guide was very knowledgeable and appeared to really enjoy his job. The complimentary drinks in the Green Dragon Inn are... More

If you're a fan this is a must see. If not you'll enjoy it just as much. You're taken in groups with a guide whom is very knowledgeable. Some in our group hadn't seen any of the movies and were still impressed. The fans were likewise suitably impressed.

My wife and I did this attraction on a larger tour, I am a fan and she was ambivalent, but we both enjoyed the tour and the tour guide! I think for those of us who are Tolkien fans we can enjoy seeing Hobbiton for what it is as part of the LOTR legend and for my wife she enjoyed... More
