Description: Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland...
Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand, where you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in a fascinating two-hour guided tour. The set has been completely rebuilt and will remain as it was seen in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. There are spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which is still a working sheep and beef farm.As the Hobbiton Movie Set is located on a real New Zealand farm, we also offer you the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lambs. You can relax and soak up the unique atmosphere with a great cup of coffee or a light meal in The Shires Rest Cafe, which is also available for functions, conferences or other occasions. Visit The Shire Store (below the cafe) for some special souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

This trip was booked through Viator before we ever left the US. Local tour provider was Bush and Beach. They limit the tour to no more than15. Picked us up at our hotel and returned us to our hotel. Driver/guide Larry was phenomenal. He added so much to the country-side as we drove from Auckland to the film set. It... More

I'm not a big fan of LOTR or Hobbit series....I just watched some of the movies, but going here is a must for anyone. It's a completely different world! The site is perfectly maintained with gardeners always on site taking care of the surroundings. The place is a bit crowded but the tour guides do an excellent job to keep... More

Have seen the 3 LOTR movies but not the hobbit movies- a fan but certainly not a diehard fan. The grounds of Hobbiton are beautiful, really well maintained, nice to see where it was filmed. I thought they could have shown more of the movie making/ trick photography aspects of it which they talked about but couldn't really provide examples.... More

It was like stepping into the movie set… literally! Just brought so much joy to the entire group as we got to walk in the footsteps of some of our favorite characters. The place is very well maintained. The cost is high and they run way too many tours back to back (causing a crowding around the main hobbit holes),... More

We included Hobbiton in our holiday drive through central NZ and are pleased that we did! My husband isn't a fan of the movie series, but I am. We chose to drive ourselves to the attraction because we were on a camping holiday and didn't want to backtrack to catch a bus. I have heard that the bus ride is... More

This is such a fun tour. If the cost wasn't so prohibitive I would suggest it as a treat for loads of young school children who are LOTR fans. The inspired layout and attention to detail are amazing, with endless photo opportunities. Our only problem was the speed with which we were required to go through the place - too... More

I have just come back from a trip to New Zealand and this is the very first review I am writing because Hobbiton was brilliant! I was apprehensive about going because of some of the other reviews but always knew that as an LOTR fan, I had to and was going to go. I was worried the tour wasn't going... More

I visited Hobbiton last week having travelled from the UK via Australia. It was a long drive from my base in Whangarai Heads and my excitement built with every mile. I was actually going to Hobbiton!! Yaaaaayy!! U.N.B.E.L.I.E.V.A.B.L.E The trilogies of Lord of the RIngs and The Hobbit have been a huge part of my son's childhood and we share... More

We done a day tour from Auckland and the weather was perfect sunny day. The coach drive there was great as the driver is a bit of a LOTR geek and gives you a running commentary about the areas we went through, and just general chit chat. He was a good laugh and mix that with the amazing scenery make... More
