Description: Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland...
Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand, where you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in a fascinating two-hour guided tour. The set has been completely rebuilt and will remain as it was seen in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. There are spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which is still a working sheep and beef farm.As the Hobbiton Movie Set is located on a real New Zealand farm, we also offer you the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lambs. You can relax and soak up the unique atmosphere with a great cup of coffee or a light meal in The Shires Rest Cafe, which is also available for functions, conferences or other occasions. Visit The Shire Store (below the cafe) for some special souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

At $75NZ this was an expensive attraction. However after seeing all of the LOTR and The Hobbit movies I just couldn't pass it up. We went on the 10.15am? tour and were picked up by bus from the Matamata iSite. Our driver was very welcoming, funny and gave great background stories to the movie set site. I was a bit... More

We had a fantastic day. The set and atmosphere was amazing, our tour guide was very informative and spoke clearly with all instructions. My only issue was other guests not thoughtful when taking photos which left the rest of the group little time and with another group following was a little frustrating. No free roaming time you are with a... More

The staff were great, very informative.. Our tour guide was a joy to listen to.The landscape was quite beautiful, and the props laid out quite well. The paths were quite hilly in some spots. We were saddened to learn neither of the Hobbit homes were complete on the inside or furnished like the movie, for the viewing. They mostly use... More

My (adult) son and I are Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. We arrived early for the 10.30 tour and sat with a coffee and talked with a few overseas tourists. Before getting on the bus, our charming tour guide got to know everyone on the tour. We had an informative commentary on the way to the set by... More

It is a given that fans of LOTR and Hobbit will absolutely love this place. The tour itself is conducted in a fun and professional manner. The sets are kept in a very good condition so that one can enjoy them. Don't forget the free freshly made ginger-ale/ alcoholic drink which is included in the tour.

What an amazing place, the staff love their jobs and were so helpful and such great guides. Both my children loved this place and even though the youngest had not seen the films she loved the place. The staff bring it to life. What a great place! Well done to the Alexander family for taking it on!

Yes, overly expensive, and the hype is incredible but this movie set is absolutely beautiful. We went around sunset which made it a rush to get all of the right pictures but the setting is just amazing. The hills, the trees, the gardens are all amazing. The addition of hobbiton the landscape is actually quite tasteful and not over the... More

I must firstly say that I am not a great fan of the Hobbits or movies. I found the set staff very friendly and informative, and the set very interesting, but the cost of $75 is way too high. I think a cost of $20 would be much more appropriate.

Took my disabled husband here and had a great day. They really looked after us, we were driven around the set in a golf buggy by an informative, friendly and helpful young guide who made us feel like VIPs. The cafe here has really good food and coffee and is reasonably priced. Highly recommended for the disabled.
