This movie theatre is a nice, clean and old style feel. It shows a variety of films and even has movie nights and celebrities that come in to speak about the movie they were in. Price is the going rate. snacks, goodies available. Bring quarters for parking, just to be safe.

Avon Theater brings interesting movies and events to Stamford in a wonderful, comfortable (think 'old-world' comfort, pre big-box movie theater days) environment. Art films with limited engagements and guest speakers (directors and sometimes actors) presenting or discussing their films make this a very special venue. Membership isn't cheap, but you are guaranteed to have an interesting selection of activities year-round.

The theater has only two screens,, usually has only two films that run 2-3 weeks. depending on demand. The Avon shows only top-rated films, including classics like Casablanca. The Avon is funded by many subscribers (the Who's Who of Stamford). The audience is primarily middle-aged and some seniors, mostly film buffs and intellectuals. Members can attend special events like wine... More

The Avon is a local treasure because it shows films that are not only traditional greats but also many that don't get the billing of the big Hollywood films.

To be fair, we recently joined the Avon Theater as Bronze members because of the variety of art they bring to Stamford. It's a stand along theater, not associated with any other theater and they have a programming director. The Board of directors includes a number of well known people from the area. The theater is comfortable and convenient, shows... More

The 1939 Avon Theatre is a historic building that was renovated a few years ago. It shows high quality first-run films in two auditoriums, one small the other large. The sound system and screen are first rate and the seats very comfortable. The theatre is located in downtown Stamford surrounded by many good restaurants. There is off-street parking a few... More

The Avon captures the old movie house experience with the most current avant garde and independent films and docs.

This is a very old (over 50 years) theater that was saved from the wreckers ball and progress. Features "artsy" and some old movies as well. They do hold an Oscars party w/red carpet and all. Gene Wilder is very involved with this theater.

A locally owned and run theater with a lot of good independent films. They also support local nonprofits.
