Nice area for relaxing and enjoying nature

being close to nature; having one of a kind shops available at the ends of the boardwalk beyond the Silver Sand beach; the Greek Spot Cafe and lots and the Walnut Beach end.

Went for the day to try something new in Connecticut. Aside from the free parking there were very few perks to this beach. There is no actual soft sand... just rocks and seashells which are painful to walk on. The water (Long Island Sound) is very dirty and smells really bad. No real restrooms just sanicans... The lifeguards were very... More

Absolutely astonished I've never heard of this beach prior to my visit. It's small, quiet and clean and easily accessible off the highway. The water is very warm, but not many waves due to being located on the long Island sound. The sand is very rocky and full of shells near the water, wear shoes to walk around. It was... More

Beach has free parking, though the lot is typically full after 11am in the summer months. Facilities are just port-a-potties. Beach is average for this area (shallow water, rocky). Best part of this beach is the sandbar which you can walk across at low tide to reach a small island which has a protected heron and egret nesting area. You... More

You`ve come a long way baby!! Anyone who has grown up in the area can tell you that Silver Sands has come a long way in the last 30 years! Offering several acres of grassy picnic areas & lots of space for family recreation. The boardwalk now extends all the way over to Walnut Beach ( a town beach) .... More

I was surprised with the new state parking tax on beaches that parking was still free here! We tried the beaches on either side of the boardwalk. The beach to left near the sandbar that stretches out to the island is filled with shells. I had to wear flip flops to get to the water. Once you are in, it... More

beautiful beach! clean, quiet and not at all crowded. the water was warm and there were millions of shells- waist deep in some places. Lots of baby hermit crabs the kids really enjoyed, it's FREE and not far from where we stayed. one of the nicest beaches in the northeast.

The park has a large Beach but the sand is not soft with lots of shells. The parking is quite a way from the beach itself and there are no restrooms except for a few portable toilets. There was one lifeguard that I saw for a very large beach area. There is a boardwalk that one can walk or run... More

A rarity along the Connecticut coast, this park is free and provides a nice boardwalk along the shore.

This State park draws many walkers on its long boardwalk. There are only a few portable toilets, no changing rooms, showers, etc. at this beach park. Most of the park is wetlands that you can't enter. The parking lots are a long way to the beach if you're carrying heavy bags, chairs, etc. It's a really great place to be... More
