Nice park not far off the main road. Great boardwalk and nice views of the sound. Nice for an evening stroll.

I live nearby and make this a regular place to take a walk. The well maintained boardwalk connects to nearby Gulf Beach. Also, Charles Island is connected by a sandbar and can be accessed by foot during low tide. Great place for families. Keep in mind that there are no permanent restrooms, only porta-potties!

We go to Silver Sands beach usually 2x per week for a long walk on the boardwalk. It's approx a 2 mile walk from the parking lot out to the end of the Walnut Beach pier and back. Nice breeze and view. It's an easy and mostly level walk. At lowtide you can walk out to Charles Island. We don't... More

Small beach with lots of shells. Wear shoes so you don't get cuts. Interesting to see different birds.

Water is cold, beach is ok, nothing like the white clean sand of gulf coast Florida. Free parking going for it though..........lots of rules against beach toys

The park here is well worth a visit. Parking is free, which is a big benefit in CT. The walk from the parking lot to the beach is a little long, so you may want to bring everything you will need with you on the first trip. There is no locker storage. There are no venders on the beach, so... More

Whether accessing this park from Walnut Beach (next beach over) or from the Silver Sands parking lot, the boardwalk is worth the visit. Nature being all-powerful, the view along the Boardwalk changes from year to year - storms change things. The local folks do a terrific job of rebuilding when a storm takes away some of the boardwalk, and if... More

We were looking for a SW CT beach to drive to from Boston and meet someone taking Metro North from NYC. We looked on line and Silver Sands beach seemed most highly rated. Also, we had also considered Walnut beach but read that is was less attractive and that the two were joined by a boardwalk. We went to Silver... More
