Hartford Stage consistently provides theater of the highest quality, whether it is contemporary drama, classic plays, or musicals. The acting, directing, set design are all first rate. We like the variety of the productions that bring both modern and classic works to each season. It is a gem of downtown Hartford.

I've been a season subscriber here for over a decade, so have seem over 60 plays here. The renovations that took place over the last few years have transformed this from a good venue to a great venue. The shift from the previous Artistic Director, Michael Wilson, to Darko has gone well. The play selection has been excellent and his... More

While it received just so-so reviews, I found the play enjoyable and we had excellent seats. Be on the lookout for discount tickets and go.

The theater is intimate and it's easy to park close by. The actors were solid quality professionals. The short one act play (The Underpants) was not a great work of art but had some funny moments.

We usually see a play here about once a year (we have to ration our live theater budget), and we just saw Steve Martin's adaptation of a 1911 German farce, "The Underpants". We laughed ourselves silly. This theater has consistently good material and actors, and presents a variety of plays so there is something for everyone. Last year we saw... More

There are no bad seats - every seat has a great view of the stage. The productions are professionally done and the cost of the tickets is reasonable.

In most years, I would say that we enjoy 5 out of 6 plays, and that 2 or 3 of the performances are top flight, often very memorable. Last year's Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, a debut, has deservedly found its way to Broadway.

I am a Dickens fan and my husband and I have seen a number of productions of A Christmas Carol over the years. We enjoyed the set, costumes, and special effects of this production... but were both really surprised at the fast pacing the actors and/or directors chose for the delivery of very Dickens' powerful words, which we feel are... The Hartford Stage is a wonderful small venue presenting many different plays throughout the year. We try to attend 3-4 plays each calendar and have yet to be disappointed. There is not a bad seat in the house which is nice. The settings are creative and acting such fun. If you haven't been, please give The Hartford Stage a try.

Hartford Stage’s annual production of A Christmas Carol, is a wholly satisfying, slightly busy, celebration. The holiday tradition is a feast of sight and sound with wondrous special effects, flying and dancing ghosts, sumptuous costumes and, of course, a heart-warming tale of atonement and rebirth. The large cast, augmented by undergraduates from The Hartt School as well as a gaggle... More
