Our tour of the State Capital was planned for is by the Hartford Friendship Force. Wow! Our guide was excellent and gave us excellent information as we walked throughout this beautiful building. We also had the opportunity to see it from Bushnell Park. Well worth the visit as one tours Hartford.

If you visit the Capitol building, and I would highly recommend that you do, try and get on one of the guided tours. This shows you all the chambers and explains all the history, too. The decor and interiors are fantastic and we found the whole experience most enjoyable. Very impressive.

What you'd like to know: 1) There is free parking behind the Capitol; 2) Entry and tours are free; 3) The Capitol is connected to the legislative complex via underground walkway and the tour starts there; 4) Allow 60-75 minutes for the formal tour and another 30-60 minutes to see more of what you like; 5) Bushnell Park is directly... Went to the state building today. Lived in Connecticut my entire life, and have never really spent time in our Capitol city. We were about 20 minutes late for the last guided tour. We found a self guided tour book in the main lobby. We spent about an hour going thru the building following the info in the brochure. Very... More

The free tours provided at the state house are very informative and interesting. It covers history, politics, art, and you get to walk around to all of the different chambers. The only knock on the tour that I have is that it did not provide any information on the exterior architecture of the building which is quite interesting to look... More

When I was invited to photograph a student art exhibit created by students from Sandy Hook Elementary, their families, and a gifted group from The Emerald Sketch art therapy program, I did not know what to expect of the venue. It had to have grace. I had to be peaceful. It had to contain the spirit and dignity of this... More

I love coming to the Capitol and Legislative Office Building. It is one of my favorite places. You can get a guided tour or use a pamphlet and take a self guided tour. Both ways are great. A guided tour you learn a lot and some things that you would miss out on are pointed out. I just always remember... More

The Capitol has a small museum that reveals the history of Hartford, especially during the revolution. There's also a large weapons display because of the Remington Factory in the area.

This capitol is a beauty! Lucky for us, we got to tour with an elementary school group. The tour guides were extremely friendly, interesting, and engaging. I'm not sure that we learned facts from an adult's point of view, however, but we learned a lot about the state itself. We even got to sit in the Charter Oak Chair and... More

State capitols are always very educative and interesting to visit and our visit of the Connecticut Capitol was one of the nicest we had so far. First of all, our guide was a very nice and passionate lady that gave us a wonderful tour and provided us with a lot of facts an various informations about the building, the people,... More
