They had some interesting artifacts. I think the one that struck me the most was the cannonballs in the tree. It really shows the civil war. This was a must see.

Wow, this is an exceptionally beautiful state Capitol building. We visited 16 state Capitol buildings on a recent road trip and the CT building is one of the most interesting and unique buildings we saw. We did not have time to take a tour but folks that worked in the building were very nice and went out of their way... More

Connecticut's State Capitol is an amazing structure from the towering outside columns to the gold plated dome that they support. The interior is even more impressive with minute details of Connecticut history captured in individual door hinges. The Capitol was fully restored in the mid 1980's bringing back the original colors and designs. An interesting anecdote from that period was... More

I did not tour the capital, however it is an impressive building and focal point in Bushnell Park, and I enjoyed waking up to that view.

Find the counter where the pamphlets for the self guided tour are. The tour is very well detailed and organized. Since Connecticut is one of the original states, there is a lot of history here. Some of the highlights are Nathan Hale statue, some Civil War artifacts, the really old battle flags, the Charter Oak Chair (inside the senate chamber),... More

This Capitol Building comes in second place after the U.S. Capitol Building in DC. While I didn't get a chance to go inside, the exterior is awe inspiring.

We enjoyed our visit to this truly gorgeous building. From our first encounter with the security guards inside, everyone was genuine and helpful. There are tours that start in the LOB lobby every hour between 9:15 and 1:15 on weekdays. We joined one of these tours with a 4th grade class taking a field trip there. I was so impressed... More

Connecticut State Capitol is fancy and impressive. After a brief security check we were free to stroll around and admire the beautiful building. It's open Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm, and there are tours every hour between 9:15am-1:15pm (also 2:15 on July & August). I loved its golden dome and the grand interior made of marble and granite.... More

My 5 Star review is based on the fact that I love visiting state capitols. They are usually beautiful buildings open for free to the public and this one does not disappoint. Here are some tips to make it a good visit: Free parking is available in the lot behind the legislative office building - the new building with the... More
