Lot's of fun for a daytime adventure. Lot's of fun for little kids. The Halloween and Polar Express Christmas rides are the best!

My husband is a model railroader and loves trains. On our way to Cape Cod we stopped at the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat in Essex, Connecticut. It was a wonderful trip. We went first class and the accommodations were very comfortable with swivel easy chairs. We were permitted to purchase drinks and their was a small table to set... More

My husband, myself and our 3 yr. old grandson took the essex steam boat and river boat ride. We also made the hike up to the Gillette castle. We all loved the train and river boat, my grandson was not that interested in the hike or the castle. It was a very hot day for that. We have done this... More

I had gone with my sister and my niece and nephew. We had the first class tickets and they were worth every penny! We had gone on my birthday and it was the best birthday/Christmas celebration, btw I'm 35 and like I said the best birthday/Christmas! We had Evy the Evergreen singing and dancing and paying attention to each individual... More

This is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. A great way to have kids enjoy time with grandparents, visiting people to have fun with extended family and friends, even a unique date experience! The relaxing atmosphere of the romance of steam train travel coupled with extraordinary New England countryside create an atmosphere of sentimental perfection! You can travel in... More

Took the train and river package with the upgrade to first class on the train, it was a very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. Train ride with swiveling plush seats and beverage service was reminiscent of times gone bye. The river ride was relaxing and informative. A must do when you are in the area.

Took the train/steamboat package - should take both otherwise it would be over too quick. We were a group of 5 so we got 10% off the price. We sat in first class for an xtra charge that was worth it. Comfortable chairs that turned to see all the sites. You can purchase drinks on the train and snacks on... More

This train and riverboat ride is very efficient without making you feel rushed or pressured. We ride in the open car on train on a beautiful day and is was terrific. Listening to the clacking of the tracks, the bells, whistle and steam. Can get a fine spray on you from stream/particles in the open car so don't wear your... More

My husband and I have talked about visiting Essex for a few years and we are both glad we finally did. The steam train and riverboat we found relaxing, educational and very enjoyable. Great for all age groups. There was a small museum and a diner in a old train car.

Great way to kick back and experience old world train travel. Disembark and enjoy the scenic vies of the Connecticut river, which is glorious in the fall. Families with children will enjoy the winter events.
