I just read a poor review of the polar express, and I think it was an isolated incident as far as seating goes. We had a great time, the children were so happy that it brought a tear to my eye. My little one really believed she went to the North Pole.

With my husband a steam train enthusiast this trip was a "must" for us. The train trip is quite short at only half an hour and at it's furthest point let's off those people who are heading up to Gillette Castle via the ferry rather than take the boat trip. The boat trip was quite interesting due to a knowledgeable... More

Two couples booked the dinner train for a Sunday evening. We were greeted so warmly. We were seated in the private table not in the main part of the train. This was just perfect for the four of us, able to talk without disturbing others. Our waiter John was great as well as funny. We all had the prime rib... More

I really don't understand the reason that people go in such numbers to visit this attraction. The train is old and thankfully the ride is short, only about a half an hour. There really is no scenery to this part of the trip. The boat ride is more enjoyable but really other than Gillette's rock castle there is not much... More

My wife and I took a bus trip with a local group of seniors from the Hudson Valley of NY state. We had lunch on a stationary dining car followed by a uneventful steam train ride through some neighborhoods and a few wooded areas. The train then reversed direction and dropped us off for a 'steamboat' ride along the Connecticut... More

Gorgeous views from both the steam train as well as the boat. We upgraded to the first class car where the crew dressed in period costume to act out the experience from the bygone train era. The tour historian on the boat was very knowledgeable of the region. The crisp fall weather enabled us to take some cool video and... More

My wife and I booked the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat trip as part of their Fall Foliage program. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with the river cruise being the highlight. Although the train ride portion of the trip was interesting, the scenic views were somewhat limited. That said, the best portion of the train experience for us occurred at... More

I took 48 senior adults on the steam train and river boat fall foliage tour, they all loved it. Beautiful, great staff and a bargain price. Been there before and will be back for sure!!
