We come here every year. Make sure you do the river boat connection. Train ride is just long enough to enjoy and appreciate the old steam train and rail, then allowing you to take the scenic boat ride for an hour. Really fun place. Nice station too. more

My family took a ride on this preserved railway as a way of seeing an area we were unfamiliar with. What a really lovely way to pass a few hours. The steam train has standard seats, pullman seats and an open car. The pullman car and open car are an extra fee, but one I would highly recommend. We love... more

My family & I decided to visit Essex Steam Train & River Boat at the last minute-we had a great weekend. Pro's: The steam engine ride was faboulous and the staff were very friendly. With a nearly 4 year old rail nut, we decided on going on the train/riverboat combination with the Gillette Castle excursion addition. The 1910 steam train was great - we actually rode 3 different legs - north to the ferry drop for our trip to Gillette Castle, then south to the riverboat, and after that south again back to Essex.... more
