The concierge at our hotel recommended this to us. The drive there was a little bumpy but once we got there we were not disappointed. We were greeted by Monique and she immediately told us all about Piney Ranch and what we could do there. What a lovely lady!! We really enjoyed talking to her. We rented a canoe and... More

After about a 45 minute drive up a dirt road we reached the Piney River Ranch. After visiting the gift shop and loading up on a few snacks we headed down to the stables to meet our guide Ty. A true Cowboy with a big heart and a true love of horses. He spent quick a bit of time with... More

Piney River Ranch is located in a majestic setting. The views are incredible and well worth the scenic drive to get there. You can choose from a multitude of activities from horseback riding, fishing, canoeing, etc. We chose to hike up to the waterfall which is about three miles up. Not only is the hiking beautiful upon our return we... More

Piney River Ranch is a beautiful spot. Long drive to get there up a rocky dirt road but beautiful scenery all the way. Sad that the pine beetle has killed so many of the trees. We did the 2 hour horseback ride. Our guide, Ty, was adorable and very entertaining. Personally, I like a more active ride that has opportunity... More

I proceeded to Piney Ranch w/a group of interns with great trepidation as it is pretty far off the grid! What I realized after the 11 mile drive (that was by the way breath taking) is that being off the grid is the secret to keeping it a beautiful, pristine, quintessential Colorado experience! My interns spent the summer working long... More

We love to come to this lake in the summer to canoe and take in the beautiful scenery. There is a nice restaurant and a hiking trail that goes as far as 7 miles. This year six of our group drove up from Vail (about 45 min drive) to have canoe races. 3 in each canoe. Had a blast! Best... More

Have been going to Piney Lake to fish with my father first when I was little, and now with my own kids, so a total of 25+ years. There was never any problem with fishing the lake with the previous owners. Now they claim that the lake is completely private and only catch and release. However, upon doing some research... More

Piney Lake is not entirely private as the claim from Piney River Ranch suggests. If you find a local map you will see there is US Forest Service property on part of the lake, and this allows for public access. There are a number of fish stocked in the lake by the resort, and there are wild fish and state... More

We had lunch at Piney and spent the day up there. It was awesome. The food was delicious, staff were amazing. Super helpful when it started raining. Would go there again any day!!! Love it!!!

This is quite an experience. You get to drive for almost an hour over the nastiest dirt road I've ever seen. Then its "Right, who's here ? There's your horse, any questions?" I kinda liked the out back, rough n ready setup. But if you've had any experience riding horses whatsoever don't pick this one. The horses may have well... More
