Great day excursion from Vail

The dirt road was little rough, but a normal car should make it. I would not try it with a low clearance vehicle. The views were awesome. Canoes for rent on the lake. The hike... read more

This was a great experience, After driving up a dirt road for 8 miles and gorgeous scenery, we arrived at Piney River Ranch. It was a different world. A beautiful lake that you could canoe on, log cabins you could rent, and even a neat little restaurant. We decided to hike almost 3 miles up to the waterfall. What awesome... More

Way off the beaten track, this is a gorgeous lake with hiking trails. I come up here to enjoy being in the middle of nowhere and hike. Not many tourists and bring a picnic. It is worth the drive

This is the very best Vail summer destination in Vail. Bring your camera as you cannot take a bad picture when you are surrounded by this much beauty. Piney River Ranch is only open during the summer and accessible by a steep and winding road. It is a rutted road so the ride is rough and bouncy. Drive slow not... More

One of the most beautiful places in the world. Rough road to get there, but worth it. The kids loved the stream and looking for fish

We love the horseback riding, the canoeing and the food I'd delicious. But don't go without a camera.

A local told us if we drove to Piney River Ranch we were likely to see a moose, so we loaded up in our SUV for an evening drive. Do NOT do this drive unless you drive a truck or Suv. The road is dirt with BOULDERS in the middle that you must drive over to get down the road.... More

Was quite a bit of a drive to get there on a dirt road. But so WORTH the drive. Absolutely beautiful and scenic area. Wish we allotted more time to stay there to hike further and enjoy activities on the lake. Saw moose on the drive.

Might be a bumpy road to get there, but it gives you a true taste of Colorado from the comfort of your car! Great views the entire drive, and the end location is worth it! No hiking necessary to get to such an incredible location! They have a kitchen for lunch, canoe rentals and a trail to venture around on.... More

We did not stay here, but just visited for the day. Don't attempt to get there unless you have an SUV or similar vehicle. The road is quite rocky, but the setting is worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking and taking in the views. There were just enough people around to not feel totally isolated, but we also had enough... More
