The Lockharts have owned this store for generations, so they will give you the best experience for all your western attire!!. They also have some cute souvenirs to bring back with you, with a western flare. Look for the life-size horse outfront.

Boots, hats, knives and clothing. You don't see much quality stuff like this any more, and the pricing is not "stupid". Considering the high quality of the goods, the pricing is not excessive. Really worth a visit! Just in case you forget, they remind you with many roadside boards driving towards Steamboat Springs from the Denver side.

The family and I visited F.M. Light December 19, 2015 while taking a day off skiing. I hadn't visited visited Steamboat in 30 years and F.M. Light and the great snow are the only two things that have not changed about Steamboat in that time. Saying that F.M. Light has not changed is a compliment! It is nostalgic but the... More

Come on, anyone who visits Steamboat Springs HAS to make a stop at FM Light! They've been around since 1908. If you drive to the Boat, you will pass 30+ signs coming from the east. Almost like Burma Shave! Can't miss the huge horse on the outside of the building. Every kid under 100 lbs has to get in on... More

Easiest clothing store you'll ever shop in. Friendly staff that knows their product ranges with exceptional detail, FM has a broad variety of western wear, with cowboy boots and hats a specialty. If you've never been to Steamboat, but need to accomplish some retail therapy, a visit here is a must.

I've been going to Steamboat for about forty years. The signs along the road made you want to see what this store is all about. They have a lot of nice items but they are not cheap. They have probably the largest selection of western boots and hats that I have seen.

I had been driving on Route 40 and noticed the dozens (hundreds?) of hand painted signs for this regional outfitter. Naturally, I had to stop in an see what it was all about. The shop was smaller than I had imagined but it was jam packed with all sorts of western wear. Boots. Cowboy hats. Outer wear. You name it!... More

Saw the advertising boards miles before we even got to Steamboat Springs so just had to visit. Such an array of beautiful boots and hats, and fascinating to see how the hats are moulded to shape by hand : Very friendly staff. Of course rather pricey which one can expect.
