Great areas for picnic lunches.

Beautiful area and easy drive for any car. Lots of side roads. . Start out early and take several of the loop roads . Very few people on the roads.

There are a lot of great hiking trails with very easily accessible trail heads. There are also quite a few nice lakes with good fishing and some camp sites for $10 per night.

We rode our motorcycles from Wyoming and this place is absolutely stunning. The scenery is so gorgeous. Everything was so green and such an awesome ride on the bikes. Will definitely be come back.

We camp and fish, all over this forest! This is filled with, Evergreens, Aspens, Willows, Blue Spruce, and hundreds of beautiful flowers. Use wisdom though in heavily forested areas, as there are bears. moose, and cougars out there. Food will always attract the hungry critters, unless it is during the day in a busy camping area. Always be aware of... More

Wonderful camp sites. Spacious & private. Conveniently located outhouses. A tad close to the main highway so faint road noise starts fairly early. But for only $10/night I can't complain.

We found a great spot along the Elk River in the dispersed camping, not one of the campgrounds. Kids had a blast playing by the river and riding bikes on the road leading up to our spot. We were there three nights and it was hot during the day and poured rain two evenings. We were more than prepared for... More

Beautiful drives and hikes. Favorites were Upper Fish Creek Falls and Gold Creek Waterfall. Wildlife encountered included: red-tailed hawk, Downy woodpecker, junko, blackbirds, robins, ground squirrels (look like chipmunks but no stripes around eyes), marmot, deer.

Couldn't believe there was snow in area. On one of our trips, we stopped to try to do a hike. The snow was blocking the trail.

We have been to various areas in the Routt National Forest as we have a residence near Stagecoach Reservoir. We are in mud season so many of the trails are sloppy, there is still snow in some areas of Rabbit Ears Pass and several of the Forest Service roads are not open. The bears are out so practice clean camping,... More

Such an amenity in Steamboats backyard.....to much to write about in one review. If you like forests, meadows and streams search Routt Forest on the Internet to see all that is available. Fishing, hiking, camping, Xcountry skiing, snowmobiling, backpacking, biking, hunting, awesome vistas minutes from Steamboat
