Owner description: Since we opened our doors in 1990, we have been Steamboat's largest full service bookstore and the locals' favorite meeting place for Good Books, Good Coffee and Good Friends. What about our store? We are a full service, independent bookstore, with extensive collections of current literature, fiction, history and memoirs, young adults. We feature a large children’s collection, and our famous treehouse reading space where our youngest children can escape. Our café serves the best coffee drinks in town, pastries, Big Train drinks, smoothies, soups and salads for lunch, and wine in the evening. We are pleased to be serving Storm Mountain Coffee, roasted locally in Oak Creek.

Thank goodness that great independent bookstores like Off The Beaten Path are still alive and thriving. Do not leave Steamboat Springs without a visit here. The store layout has recently changed which made exploring to find out where all the sections had moved too quite fun. Very good sections of local and Western themed titles. Includes a big children's book... More

Off the Beaten Path is everything you would want to find in a small town bookstore, except maybe a fireplace. There is a full coffee bar and snacks with seating upstairs (and free wifi). They have a used book section which is surprisingly hard to find these days. You only get to be #1 on TripAdvisor by being great at... More

On a cold and snowy day, what could be better than to browse the bookshelves of Off the Beaten Path; get a hot drink and squeeze into a cozy table and catch up with an old friend, or read the book you've just found!

Steamboat's lovely little independent bookstore is my favorite part of town. It has a small cafe and cozy places to sit and sip. The folks there are all bookaholics like myself, and they have packed a ton of interesting gifts and cards etc. in with a great assortment of reading material. They will order whatever you can't find, and have... More

Have you walked into a place that seems to cradle you instantly? The staff, like fingers on hands that help at a moments notice; the books in a variety unimaginable for a shop around the corner; love for all age readers; and the cafe that has just what one craves when browsing or buying or visiting describes the comforts of... Off the Beaten Path has everything Amazon can't give you - advise on a birthday present, a book review by someone you know and trust, and the best carrot cake cookies ever! And although they don't always have the book you might be looking for on their shelves, they are happy to track it down and order it for you.

This place is exactly what you want from a ma & pa, brick & mortar bookstore. They have a cute little café and reading area for writing your novel or reading someone else's over some joyous java. They have incredibly knowledgeable staff. And, the whip cream on top for families, they have an incredible kids section, with a reading nook... More

This is "home away from home" and not to be missed or experienced! Off the Beaten Path has a book and something for everyone. Yes, it's a bookstore - offering a wide variety of books for all ages, a used book section upstairs, and even a special children's area (with a "reading cave"). But, it's much more! They have unique... More

Off the beaten path has a great selection of books but that isnt the main reason I go. It's for the snickerdoodle coffee!!! They have all the little knicknacks that I love too. Off the Beaten Path is a rare small town gem. To find a specialty bookstore of this quality in a small town is rare indeed. I love the staff picks and never leave the store without finding a good read. The food and coffee are a nice plus too!
