The view of Sand Mountain over Steamboat Lake is worth the drive. There is a small fee to enter the park and enjoy hiking trails, beautiful vistas, and water sports if you like cold water.

We went out there to snowshoe. They only have about a mile of snowshoeing trails, but it's very scenic and there are very few people. The volunteer ranger at the visitor center was helpful. They have 12 miles of cross county trails that appeared to be very well groomed. It is about 45 minutes out of Steamboat Springs. The drive... More

There are NO trees! HOT. Saw one tree that managed to scrape our RV while we were backing in. Nothing to do unless you boat. We left early.

Hello, I'm sorry that you were disappointed when you visited us. It sounds like the park did not meet your expectations. We did have a pine beetle kill event that killed many of our mature pine trees so the park is not thickly forested. However, we do still have many trees and have planted many more, including some large 15-20... More

The drive is very relaxing and the lake and park is beautiful. The 45 minutes from Steamboat Springs was an easy drive.

Much of the park was already closed when we were there - last week in September. Some fall colors beginning to show. Great drive from Steamboat.

We love the Steamboat Springs area but this park just didn't have it for us.It's nice but just ordinary. What makes the trip from town to the Hahn's Peak area worth the 30+ mile drive from Steamboat is the Hahn's Peak Cafe and the Clark Store Deli. The view of the lake is best from the deck at Hahn's Peak Cafe while... I have to preface this saying we are from Michigan where beautiful lakes are bountiful. This was an nice park, with fabulous views of the mountains. Very laid back. Very few visitors when we were there.

This is a great little part just about 40 minutes north of Steamboat Springs. The campground is clean and well arranged and the views are some of the best anywhere. There is even a charming little marina if you bring your boat for fishing or just cruising around the lake. The bathrooms are also very clean and there is a... More

What a great spot - a 34 mile drive from Steamboat Springs, CO is this sweet spot to picnic, boat, kayak, fish, swim, ride, camp(tent & RV), or just hang out. We did several of these. On the way, you can stop in at one of a couple the quaint towns to pick up deli and grocery goodies to make... More

This state park was nearly deserted when we visited. With mountains and clouds reflected in the calm waters and wild flowers abounding on the cliff, I thought it was a really beautiful area. The cliff-side walk is a level easy hike.
