Took the bus from Durango to Silverton. Immediately boarded a vehicle to the San Juan Backcountry office only a couple of blocks away. Within minutes, Dan was leading us on rocky trails to view old mining areas. Scenery was spectacular and lunch was provided. He was a perfect guide, giving us space to go at our own pace. It was... The Durango-Silverton narrow gauge railroad trip sounded lovely but a few TripAdvisor reviews mentioned taking the train both ways is a little sedate. We decided to go with a package that combined train and ATVs. The ATV ride with San Juan was the best decision we could have made. After a scenic bus ride from Durango to Silverton we were... More

The first tour was Maggie Gulch to see the flowers in July. The second was to Sunnyside mine to collect rocks and see the aspen starting to turn. He knows a lot about mines and gave us lots of info. Sara C.

Me and my wife Vicky had never been in this area and wanted to drive in the area to see the mountain views ,everyone said you have to rent a jeep, but I wanted to enjoy and be able to see the same things and not just the road. So we booked a 8 hour tour with a guide. We... More

Tony was awesome as he guided us to all kinds of really awesome places and gave really deep knowledge discussions of mining, techniques, history, engineering, and the people themselves. My friend Bob and I enjoyed this all day trip. Since we both had a lot of experience with snowmobiles, waverunners, and motorcycles, learning how to be pros with ATV's was... More

In late July 2014 we were passing through Silverton, Colorado and, on a whim, stopped in to the San Juan Backcountry office. We immediately booked a 2 hour trip which would leave in 1 hour. We had lunch, returned to San Juan and there met Crazy Bob, our 80+ year old tour guide. He asked what we wanted to see... More

We were very happy with our experience and feel this was because we were fortunate to have Freddy as our guide. He took our family of four on a 4 hour tour up to the Animas Forks ghost town in the suburban. As scenic as Silverton is, it only gets better in the backcountry. This is definitely some of the... My husband and I had a fabulous time with Crazy Bob. He was accommodating to our desires and physical needs. At 13,000 feet we saw beautiful scenery. highly recommend this trip and driver. Felt safe yet adventurous. Bob was knowledgeable about many things from flowers, rocks, animals, mining, and automobiles.

Me and my father spent a full day with our tour guide Tony seeing old and mostly intact mining sites. The best was a nearly complete tram station. It was a blast. This is a must for anyone. This is my second atv tour I have been on and plan to have many more!

Friendly, fabulous folks and knowledgeable about the area. Ed Q. took our group on the 4 hour ATV guided tour way up about 13,000 ft to see all the wildflowers, snow, old mine with marmots, waterfalls and of course took us through the run-off from the rain! He stopped often for pictures for the moms. :) My family had a... More
