The Sonriano family has a great system worked out and I would recommend their tour to anyone. They pick you up from the bus, lend you shoes, let you leave your backpacks, have waterproof bags to keep your camera safe, and the food at their place is great. Even with a group of 18 it ran seamlessly, and it floating... More

My boyfriend and I cancelled our stay in Leon to take the Somoto Canyon Tour with Henry Soriano and his team. Brian Thackray assisted us in arranging transportation and our overnight stay. We ended up renting a car and driving from San Juan del Sur. It took us a little over 5 hours, which included stopping for lunch. Upon arrival... More

I showed up alone to the canyon at about 12 and booked a guide there from one of the local tourism offices. I had my big backpack and with a guide, they offered to lock it in one of their homes. If your planing of going, don't book it through a hostal as the cost is marked up quite a... More

So beautiful!! Really amazing daytrip, very beautiful surroundings, plants, butterflies... you have to walk and swim, the water is not cold. We had a really nice and friendly guide, he lives near the entrance to the canyon. He had a bag where we could put our stuff in so that it kept dry. I will never forget this experience, it... More

Booked a tour with la Luna hostel - the guild was able to show us all the places to jump from (5,10,15m) into the canyon! He also had a dry sack that kept all our belongings safe from the water. Grab a life jacket so you can float down the river.

This canyon is not anywhere near the scale of grand canyon but it's just as stunning and makes a much better day trip! You walk through the canyon spotting bats and other wildlife, float down the river and jump off rocks before getting a boat the last bit. We went with namancambre tours as after scouting and asking quite a... More

We can recommand to make your tour with Ricardo. You can find his house near to the entrance to the Cañon. If you take the bus from Somoto, leave it at km 230 and ask there for Ricardos house. You will see a sign for tourist information on his house. We met there a nice guy and a nice family... More

We arranged a tour through the Hotel Rosario in Somoto. The guide picked us up at the hotel, took us on an adventure that included hiking, swimming and boating. Fantastic. We saw others without a guide who were having a good time but certainly missing some of the less obvious bits.

We booked the trip through Treehugers office in Esteli and were not disappointed! We took the public bus to Somoto in the morning (be prepared that the bus is veeeery full) where Henry was waiting for us and brought us to his house at the entrance to the canyon. You can leave your belongings there, just bring water, sunscreen and... More

your expectations and time of year. I did the canyon Feb 25 and was a little disappointed. Partly, I may have set myself up by having too high a set of expectations. I had expected (hoped) for more water, more slots, more challenge. However, this time of the year is dry so there was more walking than in the river.... More
