What a wonderful excursion this was and what a great day we had. The drive to the Amazonas Park was a trully spectacular experience and when we got there, our expectations were more than met. The entrance fee of 8Euros is very modest by what one gets in return. From the friendly hee-hawing of the adorable donkey at the entrance that welcomes... More

I visited the park while on a trip to Rethymno in June 2013. It was about 1hr 45min car journey from our apartments which was long but worth it. The place is a bit hard to find due to the signs being small but they have to be that small by law but we only had to turn around once... More

We visited Amazonas Park while touring the mountain villages above Elounda. The director, Patricio, has a heart of gold. Our children (15 & 11) returned for a morning of volunteer food prep and feeding of the animals. What an experience! Don't miss the opportunity to visit the unique sanctuary Patricio has created and hear his story.

In the Lasithi prefecture, on the way to Agios Nikolaos, take a detour to this wonderful park. Don't expect a complete zoo! It is a collecting station for animals/birds and a private initiative from Patricio di Nascimento and two of his friends, all from Luxemburg, to rescue endangered animals, mostly birds (e.g. ara's, parrots, cacatoe's), breed them and place them... This park is beautifully laid out and features a number of tropical birds I have never seen anywhere before. However, I have to say that I felt 8 euros was a little on the high side, especially as there was no discount for seniors. Elsewhere in Crete, seniors are usually charged half the normal price. The sign outside said, "Birds... More

We took 2 young children here and spent a couple of very pleasant hours wandering around looking at the beautiful birds. There is a small play area with swings and a slide which kept the 3 and 5 year olds quite happy while the grown-ups had a coffee. The park is set on a hillside with fantastic views. Patrick is... The folks who have built this park have done so for one reason, and one only - they care about animals! Their dedication to every creature that they offer a home to and their enthusiasm in helping breed endangered parrot species deserves all our admiration. A beautiful park which will please visitors young and old...

We saw a sign at the side of the road and being an animal lover had to go and visit. It is up a steep road and for a while we thought we were lost but soon saw it. The park itself is beautiful and the views are amazing, I was only sad as we were the only ones there.... More

It was 8 euros per person, and in about an hour we saw everything. It's a shame that there weren't other visitors, we were the only ones. It's all about parrots so you can expect some noise from the birds. there were a lot of plants to create a lovely environment. Also the Cretan farm area needs a little work... More

What a great find! We found a leaflet in a hotel and immediately wanted to visit! The birds are spectacular, the gardens fantastic, and the location with the views are incredible. Everything was immaculate and well laid out. We would definitely go back and stay longer next time - just to sit at the cafe and look at the view... More
