I've only ever seen the prairie chicken mating on videos. Seeing it in person was pretty awesome. Good place for bird/wildlife watching in general. Day trip at most.

This is a wasteland, Trash Everywhere!!! If I was filming a documentary on desolate real estate, I would start Here! I found nothing impressive about this place! Sorry!!!

I enjoy the variety of colors in the geology, vegetation and animal habitat with ever changing skies and weather.

It's a fine view from the train between La Junta and Trinidad, CO. There are fantastic dinosaur tracks here if you hike in.

All you see is lots of shrubs and tall grass. It has it's own beauty. In Iron Springs you can see the Santa Fe Trail ruts. WATCH OUT FOR RATTLERS!!!! Not too far away is Picture Canyon. Lovely place. On the south canyon walls you will find prehistoric indian rock art. Nice place to hike around - it does get... More

It was 100 degrees on the July day I was here. The grasslands aren't very grassy...more like scrub and near desert. So you have to really want to visit. South of La Junta there's one area called Iron Spring where you can see Santa Fe Trail ruts...but watch out for rattlers as you walk into the desert a short distance.... More
