On 9/22/2015 we were biking and wine tasting around Palisade. One of the wineries we stopped at was Varaison. After the tasting we purchased 2 bottles of Crème Brulee Chardonay, 1 Merlot, and 3 Barbara. We also purchased 14 bottles at other wineries around Palisades. We returned to Loveland, CO with them. We opened our first Barbara after Christmas Day,... More

Varaison was our final stop on our biking/winery tour of Palisade. We were all so glad we finished the day with such a lovely experience. Kristin, the co-owner and hostess, facilitated a tasting even though she was quite close to closing up for the day. Not only were we treated to a tasting of many delicious old-world style wines, we... More

The technique being used in Varaison's wines shows great skill. The wines are so different from other wines due to the way they're being vinted. That difference may not be appealing to other tasters, but my spouse and I are oenophiles who appreciate a well-crafted wine. Varaison isn't for everyone, and may be intimidating to those who prefer sweet, simple... More

I have been to a lot of wineries and never have I had a better visit. There are two elements to a visit to Varaison. First is the tasting process and second is the wines themselves. We walked in on a quiet Wednesday afternoon to be greeted in a magnificent Victorian home by the owner. Her energy for Palisade, the... More

Hate to say it, but the wines lack substance. The staff were fab and the old house is beautiful, which bumps this up a notch for a rating. But, when you grow up in Europe and tour wineries all of France, and then are told a long story about their wine winning awards, the expectations are high. So were their... More

Thank you so much for your candid review of our wines and experience. We strive not to be a French winery, but simply to use their wine making style and techniques to produce wine styles similar to those traditional old world styles. Not all of our wines are designed to be heavy, as that style is, but some are designed... More

My wife and I visited Varaison on a winery tour. The solid recommendation from the bike rental shop steered me to this nook of varietal education. Varaison is doing something well. Their styles and - moreover - their execution delivers unique wines which are not what one would expect. This is Colorado - not Napa, right? To complete the package,... More

We were given a very good lecture on wine enjoyed the tasting. She said that to smell wine, get the nose all the way into the glass. To taste white wine, drink with head back so the wine goes straight back the tongue—not all over the mouth. To taste reds, tip head forward so that the wine goes all over... More
