I concur with the others that the wine steward did a fabulous job in education about wine, but the exceptional ism here is the added benefit of their knowledge of chemistry, gestation and olfaction. Learning why food tastes better with breath and certain foods, etc. was a real added benefit. The wine maker is a chemist by training with thirty... More

Many vineyards to tour in the Palisade area but I would start with this one and get some knowledge first. As been written, Andy provides a nice overview of their wine and the winemaking process. Remember taste the reds on the corners of the tongue and the sweets in the middle of your tongue. Also, always hold the wine glass... More

Wow. Just wow. This place is great. If you want to feel welcomed and get a phenomenal wine education - go here. I learned so much (and I wine taste a LOT) and I tasted very interesting wines. This place also welcomed my kids - they were given grape sodas and they played cards on the front porch. I loved... More

Their unique approach of educating you through blind tasting is great. We were there for an hour and a half talking with Alex, and it felt like 5 minutes. He's tremendously knowledgeable and fun to speak with. To top it off, the wines are exceptionally good and unique. Not cheap, but fairly priced for the quality offered. Had to write... More

The education given at the bar... Dozens of wineries over dozens of years and this is the first time I was shown to drink white wine down the middle of the mouth and red down the side... Yes, you need to stop in to really find out... Love their viognier white...

When you go in for the wine tasting they actually teach you the best way to taste wine! You get a much more personal experience here then at any of the other wineries. The landscape is amazing as well and I really love the front porch!

My wife and I have visited vineyards and wineries all across the country, so when we walked through the door of Varaison (the very name is a grape ripeness factor moniker) and were offered a seat on the front porch with the winemaster himself, we gladly accepted the invitation. Not only were we treated to many delicious tastings, we were... More

Although the website says "Open 10 No sign on the door or anything, just locked up. There were staff there, working around the back of the house. They ignored us and walked away. Very disappointing.

I deeply apologize that we were not available to serve you on this Easter / Passover holiday. The property also happens to be a residence for our family, and while the rest of my family was at church that morning, i was scurrying around to prepare a special meal for them. I found later that the sign that had been... More

Most wineries you stop at will hand you a list and ask what you would like to try. On that list will be a short description of the wine, and you may be supplemented with a little additional information. It is a totally different experience at Varaison Vineyards. You will try each wine they offer and you will not know... More
