A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa. « less

Friendly winemaker/owner and a bit of a storyteller meets you at Carlson. He is modest about his successes in wine but just look at the pictures of him and news articles on the wall. Be sure to try his cherry cordial. You are in for a surprise and will take home the most unique of dessert wines and recipes and... More

This was our first stop of four different wineries in the Grand Junction/Palisade area. We have been to California in Sonoma and Napa before so we went in with moderate expectations since Colorado is relatively new to wine. Carlson may not have the fancy tasting room but the family does an outstanding job of answering questions about their wines. Oh... More

It was the 4th stop on our wine tour so I really am uncertain how many of the wines I really liked by then after tasting so many, but I did buy the sweet gewurtztraminer which was very good (look for the blue bottle). The tasting part was so much fun, our pourer, Garret had a wonderful sense of humor... More

The wines were delicious, the gentleman who told us about the wines was very friendly and helpful, and the outdoor sitting area is beautiful. We would definitely recommend spending some time here!

My wife and I just finished our trip through Colorado Wine Country and this was the most memorable winery we came across. Since it was the off season, we were the only ones in at the time. We had made no prior reservations before our visit. The staff was incredibly friendly. They set up the wine in order of tasting,... More

Took my dad here after thanksgiving to sample some wines. They were having an open house so we were able to try a few different ones. They do lean towards sweet wines which are not normally my cup of tea but I did like most that I tried. Everyone here was very nice and we had a nice afternoon here.... More

This was by far the best stop we made during our visit to Colorado Wine Country. The staff is warm, friendly and willing to present and discuss the wines, regardless of how busy they may be at the time. They know their wines insdie and out. They get to know what you like or dislike in wines before they start... More

This vineyard is a neat stop when touring the Palisade vineyards. As the third oldest winery in the state of Colorado, they have a history if making a good product. During several years of no grapes after prohibition the owner experimented with other fruits to make wine. This tradition is still carried on today. We recommend the peach and cherry... More

Really good wines, very friendly staff, and one of the employees stopped labeling bottles and took a good fifteen minutes to explain the process to us and show us the rooms where the wine is made. This is a quality operation with a generous tasting room...you gotta go!
