Our hour long tour turned into just shy of two hours as we got caught in the tale of pharmacy in the West. The story and collection was the highlight of Ouray for us and the owner's dream to share his passion is even more of an attraction to take part in! We always enjoy the odd and more eccentric... The architecture of the building is gorgeous and the museum inside is fantastic! Curt takes his guests back in time with stories of history and deception as he teaches you about how the practice of medicine has changed throughout history. As a future pharmacist, it got me even more excited about the field I have been learning about beginning to... More

The building is attractive and alone merits a stop, but the visit to the museum is a good choice. He has interesting exhibits and he gives a personal tour that is educational as well as interesting.

I am the program supervisor for a pharmacy technician program at a community college in Grand Junction. I brought a group of my students to The Ouray Alchemist on a field trip and they loved it! Curt Haggar spent a couple of hours with them sharing his knowledge, passion, and an amazing collection of pharmacy artifacts. It was not only... More

I don't know which part of this experience was more enjoyable... the one-of-a-kind collection of pharmacy artifacts accompanied by fascinating historical factoids and trivia, or the compelling personal story Proprietor Curtis Haggar weaves into the tour about his relentless journey to fulfill his dream of sharing it. Either way, this unique tour is an absolute blast and will be a... More

On a recent trip to Montrose (for a pharmacy shift no less), I was fortunate enough to find an ad for the Ouray Alchemist. This place is fantastic! It's full of history that pharmacists don't get to learn in school about the very profession we love. The private tour is great as Curt shares his vast knowledge and wit. There... More

Sarah, It is wonderful to get such positive feedback from another pharmacist! Thank you for taking the time to write your review. It's nice to know that visiting the Ouray Alchemist was a bright spot in your trip to our area. Pharmacy as a career has changed and evolved over the centuries, in many ways not for the better. It... We're still taking in everything. Curt filled us with so much knowledge that we would have never thought existed, not to mention all the fascinating artifacts he has collected. It is a must see if you're in the area. I loved his sense of humor too! Just be cautious with small children, because there's delicate pieces of history all through... More

During our Road Scholar Historic Colorado Train program (amazing) we heard about this museum and decided to check it out. This visit turned into one of those serendipitous, unforgettable, experiences that make travel so rewarding. The proprietor, Curtis Haggar, has searched the world over to acquire unique items about pharmaceuticals, starting with Egypt, covering the Middle Ages, Snake Oil salesmen,... More

I am so glad that you enjoyed the tour! Thank you for writing your review. There is one thing that needs clarification however. I did not intend to mislead you in any way regarding the Smithsonian. We do not lend pieces to the Smithsonian. There are items displayed in the Smithsonian collection that we have acquired as well. So glad... More
