We're still taking in everything. Curt filled us with so much knowledge that we would have never thought existed, not to mention all the fascinating artifacts he has collected. It is a must see if you're in the area. I loved his sense of humor too! Just be cautious with small children, because there's delicate pieces of history all through... More

During our Road Scholar Historic Colorado Train program (amazing) we heard about this museum and decided to check it out. This visit turned into one of those serendipitous, unforgettable, experiences that make travel so rewarding. The proprietor, Curtis Haggar, has searched the world over to acquire unique items about pharmaceuticals, starting with Egypt, covering the Middle Ages, Snake Oil salesmen,... More

I am so glad that you enjoyed the tour! Thank you for writing your review. There is one thing that needs clarification however. I did not intend to mislead you in any way regarding the Smithsonian. We do not lend pieces to the Smithsonian. There are items displayed in the Smithsonian collection that we have acquired as well. So glad... More

I highly recommend a stop at the Ouray Alchemist Museum. I was passing through Ouray and came across an unexpected gem. Being a pharmacy student, I am always curious to meet small business owners. Curt is a wealth of knowledge and the collection that he had gathered over a number of years is impressive! A tour of the museum will... More

Step back in time as you enter this incredible museum through a lovely section of an original Aspen, Colorado Drugstore c. 1888. A world of amazing antiques and treasures awaits you as you experience what a pharmacy was like in Western Colorado in the 1800's. Pharmacist Curtis Haggar has spent over 40 years collecting and has created a museum beyond... More

Our first trip to Ouray (in November!) included time walking around downtown. As soon as we saw the Alchemist sign, we knew we had to stop and see what it was all about. Curtis greeted us and offered his tour. So glad we decided to take it! He has spent a lot of time and energy collecting, restoring and displaying... More

While on vacation celebrating my son's graduation from medical school, this was a logical tour for him. Who would have thought all five of us would totally enjoy it! Curtis our guide, had a great way of making the history of pharmacology and alchemy relative to Ouray and our everyday lives. The artifacts, art and displays are high quality, but... More

I dropped by based on the previous reviews on TripAdvisor and am so glad I did. I am a Pharmacist from North Carolina and I have never met anyone with such a wonderful knowledge base on the history of Pharmacy as Curtis has. And the collection of pharmacy antiques was amazing. And to learn one of his favorites pieces, the... More

Loved this tour through history and learning more about how my profession evolved, especially as it pertains to Colorado. It kept my young children interested longer than I thought and then they were entertained with coloring and books of Ouray while I was able to continue the tour. Highly recommend!
