He started with the big bang and covered the entirety of alchemy/pharmacy history. I never realized the huge part opium had in the early history of alchemy, and how important snake oil remedies were to the medical history of the US. Very, very interesting tour, and the conversation with Curt was great. I'd give it seriously 7/5 if I could.... More

This is a very unique tour. Walk into an amazing and beautiful storehouse of historical pharmaceutical and other artifacts. If you are a history buff or a medical person, you will love the perspective the owner gives. You are ushered to the back of the museum and invited to take a seat. The owner gives an entertaining and humorous lecture... More

My wife & I stopped in after seeing it so highly rated on trip ad, and it was a rainy day so we weren't too motivated to go hiking. I'm a teacher and enjoy learning about the history of odd topics. The tour was entertaining and Curt's collection is amazing! It was fascinating to learn about what passed for "medicine"... More

Three of us toured the museum a few days ago. I'm so glad we did! I don't have a background in medicine or alchemy, in fact I know next to nothing about it. I do love history though and I was fascinated. My two 17 year old girls weren't all that excited about another museum, but they raved about it... More

I had planned out this visit for awhile but was very disappointed when we got there and he informed us that he didn't think it was our kind of museum and that we should try the county museum instead, needless to say we decided to take our business else where. We were not aware that you had to make reservations... More

Thank you for writing your review. However, since you never set eyes on the museum, how do you know that you would be impressed or not? We appreciate your comments but this is clearly not a real review of the museum and its contents. Reservations are encouraged for tour times at 10 am and 1 pm but are not required.... More

I loved meeting the owner, Curt, a retired pharmacist, who presents the tour himself. His collection of pharmaceuticals represents over 40 years of collecting and he built the building himself.

Thank you for your wonderful comments. Yes, we did construct the building in 2010. We realized that there was no other space in Ouray that would accomodate all my treasured fixtures, so we had to design and build it ourselves. I try to tell the story of 45 years of collecting for the museum in about one and a half... More

What a fabulous tour! If you are interested in the history of alchemy do yourself a favor a visit his personal museum and gift shop right on Main Street on Ouray. I am a chemist by trade but the history and fun facts that Curtis provides will enchant anyone including small children. Do yourself a favor and just do it!

I'm with you! I can't wait for 10 am and 1 pm myself! Hopefully I can exceed peoples' expectations of the alchemy (pharmacy, chemistry, medical etc) museum through my guided presentations. Enthusiastic reviews like yours keep me going strong. More

This is one experience you should not miss. The owner of the Ouray Alchemist (Curtis) kept us all captivated with his presentation. I stopped in the night before we took the tour to find out the basic info - time, cost. He took the time and briefly explained what the tour is like. He was concerned my children may not... More

It is so nice to know that you and your family enjoyed the tour! It was a pleasure to meet you all and to know that children can relate to the experience as much as adults. I appreciated seeing you all again the following morning. It was a heart touching moment. God bless you. Curt p.s. I hope you can... More

We were two out of a group of five for the tour today. Three of the group had a previous engagement and had to leave early. The owner, Curt, let them out the door and continued the tour with the same amount of enthusiasm as if there were twenty of us. I had no idea about the history of pharmacies,... More

What you say in your review is greatly appreciated. Thanks for getting the word out! You don't have to be in the medical or pharmaceutical profession to get a kick out of our tour. Hope it was one of... More

Unfortunately when we visited the Alchemist Museum, the building was closed because a tour was in process. Evidently during the busy summer season, tours are only offered at 10:00 and 1:00. We are sharing this review as a help to others who might be interested.

Thank you for your Review Title! Hopefully others will notice the times of the tours and arrive at the time they are offered. We hope people reading your comments will understand that this is not a real review. The museum is in the back portion of our retail space and behind an amazing fully restored 1888 pharmacy piece from Aspen... More
