We picked up the trail across from the visitors center. You'll see the stairs to your right across the street. The view was amazing and the trail was mostly in the sun so there were only a few patches of ice. You can descend at the waterfall at 8th which is what we did because we weren't sure our little... My family and I visited Ouray and we did the perimeter trail hike. It had BEAUTIFUL views but it was very tiring for me and my 12 year old. But we all made it through as long as we stopped for breaks! You don't want to miss this hike but be prepared to hike!

We entered the trail from the east side of town ascending near Cascade falls. It was a little cloudy but we climbed and the sun burned off the dew and the views were magnificent. We hiked the southern part of the Perimeter Trail and enjoyed every step of it. A combination of blue skies, snow, and the views make it... More

Good place to stretch your legs, while still enjoying pretty scenery. Great for anyone who wants to enjoy the area, but isn't physically able to hike the mountains. Very well groomed trails.

We went up to Cascade Falls. Unplanned, we decided to continue our hike on the Perimeter Trail. We worked our way to the north towards US 550. There are some great views along the narrow well maintained trail. There is a neat section where you walk under a rock wall overhang. As we neared the highway we could see the... More

Be in shape! Steep inclines and declines. Hiking shoes/boots a plus. Take water. Don't forget a camera, breathtaking!

Lots of great vistas, good exercise. Although the trail was pretty muddy because of recent snow. Be prepared for temperature swings as you go through different areas of the trail

Great views of the town. We were there at the end of the fall color. and did not stay anywhere else. We had been going to the national park Mesa Verde but the government was in a shut down.

The perimeter trail is beautiful, not too difficult, and easily accessible from Ouray. The trail passes by Cascade Falls, through the Portland trail, the Ice Park, and across the top of Box Canyon falls. We hike the trail once a year and always enjoy it. The only downside is that the trail is not well marked in certain areas (near... More
