Breathtaking, yeah I had to stop and catch my breath.

Climbing higher and higher on the rim of the mountains overlooking the town. A great hike, although not for the timid. The trail is completely safe, but you climb at least 2000 feet as you wind around the town. Incredible views. Hold On, I'll Catch Up With You Guys in a Minute!

Little trouble catching my breath with the altitude at first, but I wouldn't miss this for anything.

We completed the Perimeter Trail hike in one trip but the trail could be easily broken up into separate sections. The trail provides so much variety of views, terrain, elevation, and vegetation. The views of Ouray from the trail are magnificent. Make sure to bring water, a snack, and sunscreen (hats or spf shirts). It will take you longer than... More

The one to take for variety and ease of accessibility. Start at swimming pool or several other locations throughout town. At 4.2 miles not long. Its a combination of several local trails. Highlight is crossing bridge over box canyon falls and shimmying through out water tunnel. A must

We loved this moderate hike up and around Ouray. Our 13 year old boys found it interesting and challenging enough, and so did we (mid-40s parents)! The trap offers quite a variety of scenery and trails from boulders to grassy meadows. We spent about 4 hours completing the entire trail, including stopping for a light picnic lunch as ell as... We have done this hike as a family for many years and it continues to be a family favorite! There are some strenuous parts but for us I think it is mostly because we are not accustom to the altitude. We always take plenty of water and snacks. It is such a great way to spend the day with your... More

We did just a portion of this, from the visitor center (north side) to the lower Cascade falls (westernside). It was quite intimidating and steep, with a very narrow shelf that climbed up and up. Spectacular views. We were not really prepared, had two kids with us, and continued mostly because we did not want to go down such a... More

The loop around Ouray is gorgeous. It is moderately strenuous in portions but the views are well worth the effort. The nice thing is the multitude of trails leading to town. If you decide to cut it short there is always an "out" close by. Basically this is a memorable hike so Just Do It! WNC I would suggest early... More

We found the steep climbs somewhat daunting - but we are senior citizens! For experienced hikers, this trail should present no problems, and a rewarding 4.3 mile hike. The terrain is mostly forest, but there are beautiful views of Ouray from a great height, all along it. Some sun, some shade, and one sunny pasture. You'll also pass Cascade Falls,... More

This trail takes you on a trail through the geography and flaura of the San Juans. Not an easy hike, on narrow sometimes muddy trails, and at 8,000 + ft. It takes us 2 days to do the complete trail. Youngsters can do the entire trail in day. Can't imagine hiking any place more beautiful.
