Easy to access from town, nice variety of terrain, sites, Waterfalls, high canyon bridge, short tunnel. Flat, steep, some very narrow ledge trail. Saw hummingbirds, squirrels, butterflies. Interesting geographic features.

We started at the visitor's center and it was a little hard to cross the highway since there was a long line of cars but with a little patience it's not bad. At first I was thinking we could’ve skipped the first portion on the way to Cascade Falls but it does offer nice views of Ouray. There are other... More

My husband and I hiked the entire trail in about 5 hours, took frequent breaks to enjoy the view and of course take pictures. The changes in elevation as well as climate kept us pushing forward. The mountain tunnel at Box Canyon is a joy to find. The waterfalls are just beautiful. This has to be one of the best... More

We finally decided to do a portion of the Ouray Perimeter Trail yesterday. We parked by the Visitor's Center, crossed the street, and the trail starts by the Big Pink Rock. The first portion of the trip has a fairly steep incline; take your time and it starts to level off, although there are still many sections that go up... More

What's better than a hike the goes around the perimeter of a picturesque Victorian town and provides views in all directions of this little valley gem. The hike can be exited in may places if you feel the need to end the hike for a meal or treat in one of the many places to visit in town. Like all... More

This trail is a great hike! The beauty of it is you can pick it up, or drop off the trail at so many different locations around Ouray.

This is just an excellent effort on the part of the trail designers. It was a solid 4 hours to do the 5 mile loop, for me, without any real breaks on a warm afternoon. Plenty of exercise, great views of the town, and lots mountain scenery. There are also several spots where you could abandon the hike and walk... More

My husband and I hiked this trail recently. We are older, but experienced hikers. Fortunately, we had hiking shoes and hiking sticks with us...we needed them as the trail had much loose gravel on some of the trail as you ascended in elevation. It was hard to get a good foothold in some of the sections. In fact. A woman... More

The perimeter trail takes you around the entire city of Ouray. The best place to start the hike is at the visitor's center (next to the pool) where they give you tons of information and there is plenty of parking. The hike is vertical to begin with, but after you make your ascent the trail levels off. We made it... More

The hike is right in town. Several places to enter and exit if you do not wish to do the 4.2 miles. We started and ended at the visitor center. The trail is well signed. Pretty steep in spots. We particularly enjoyed the baby bathtubs and box canyon section with views of the river. Not too many mozzies, but there were... More
