Note that this is a walking tour where you walk 1500 feet into the drift. Our guide Tony, who has real-world experience in underground mining, explained the history and layout of this particular mine and pointed out the interesting calcium formations on the walls formed by water running down the rocks. Once we reached a gate blocking off the main... More

This was our second mine tour. The staff was great, but the tour was a little weak in my opinion. If you have never been on a mine tour it would be a good first tour. The kids really liked panning for gold and silver after the tour.

My 7 year old enjoyed the tour and the gold panning. Wish the tram was still operating and would love to go all the way in to the old shaft.

loved the tour, however we were there for a family reunion and thought the kids (ages 7 and 4) would enjoy going into the mine. They were over it almost as soon as it began. You walk in about 1500 ft or so and then sit and listen to mining history. VERY interesting to myself and my husband, kids couldn't... More

Tony was enthusiastic not only about guiding the tour, but also about fixing and bringing back to life the old equipment used when the mine was still in operation. You get a good sense of what miner's work entailed from the days of the single jack miners up to more heavy duty operations.

We have visited this mine many times over the years with our own children and grandchildren. We really enjoyed the walk in. It was better then past tours with mining cars. Much improved learning experience and the breakfast was good.

We had an amazing breakfast that we got to enjoy outside under a canopy surrounded by the majestic San Juan Mountains! Ronny was our guide and he was completely awesome!!! He told us of the history of the mine and explained to us “non-miners” the terms and lingo used and what all the machines and tools were for. He even... More

We visited the Bachelor-Syracuse Mine on a whim, and it fit in our schedule. We had 5 adults and 2 children ages 7 & 10. Walking inside the mine was quite interesting, as the pathway is along the old railroad tracks, right next to a small running creek. Bring your dirty shoes... The guide was knowledgeable, and interesting. He demonstrated... More

The drive up was easy. We started with a fantastic camp breakfast. Everything was on the plate.Free coffee! With breakfast came a discount to the tour. At the top of the hour we met in the office. After a welcome and a safety briefing we were off. The route in was on a level gravel walkway. As we walked the... More

Went on the mine tour and got to walk thru a non working mine with a guide. Everyone wore hard hats and after walking about 800 feet the guide explained what miners had to go thru in the 1800's. Later we were able to pan for silver but I had No desire to get on my knees in sift thru... More

Hi Karen thanks for coming and visiting the Bachelor Syracuse Mine! The panning is included in the price of the tour and you can find real gold in the panning area along with iron pyrite and other metals. The gold panning area is a side attraction and is more of an activity for the kids to prospect precious metals and... More
