Two children and two adults were in our group. The kids loved the tour. Our guide and host was extremely knowledgeable and experienced. His grandad and dad were miners and he grew up in Ouray so we recieved more detailed information that engaged and excited the 10 year old boys for the entire one hour tour. Afterwards we shopped for... More

The mine was very interesting, however, there was little time to really see it. The 1500 foot walk down into the mine was done at a power walk speed. We were at the back of the line so we slowed down to look at some of the formations on the walls. The guide seemed irritated that he had to wait... More

We had a very informative tour here last week. My husband and son loved panning for gold at the conclusion of the tour. I would highly recommend this mine tour.

Our family took this mine tour, and were the only people there on a Sunday afternoon in July - the height of tourist season. I guess this should have been an indication to us that this was not the best attraction in town, but the ratings on TA were good, and it was mentioned in the Frommer's guide, so we... More

This mine is a short drive from Ouray. They have a genuine Blacksmith Shop complete with working blacksmith. They have a nice gift shop to buy a souvenir and an outdoor eating area. Before entering the mine, you must put on a hard hat and then follow the guide l,500 feet into the mine. I had to use my handy... More

Well done tour by a very friendly and knowledgable guide who happened to be the owner. Teenagers had fun panning for gold also. Would definitely recommend to other Ouray visitors

Returning to Ouray for our family vacation, we revisited the mine tour. The kids were excited to get to pan for gold again and my wife and I really enjoyed listening to Richard explain the history of mining. My daughter ask him about information for a school project and he took the time to go into great detail and even... More

My husband and I were staying in Ouray and taking a number of the back roads past the old mines and wanted to learn more about them. The man that lead the tour was very knowledgeable and was able to answer many of our questions about the mines in the area. The tour consists of a 1500 foot walk into... More

When we visit a new area, we love to learn about the history. If you visit the San Juan mountains, don't miss out on this slice of local culture. We went too late for breakfast, which we heard is great. It was my first tour of a mine, and I found everything fascinating. Got some great pictures too. Highly recommend.
