This was my third trip to the area. Have driven twice to the peak. So decided to take the Cog rail this time. Was accompanied with my wife and kid so assumed that it would be a lot of fun for the kid. Pros - Great views, great conductors - which provide a lot of information throughout the journey which... The ride was slow and beautiful so we could take in all the views. It was incredible to witness the amazing technology used to take you up the steep incline. The views and ecosystem changed with elevation and it was a great educational experience. The narration was great too. Only wish the passengers could switch seats to the other side... More

This engineering marvel will take you to heights you may otherwise never be able to achieve. At over 14,000 feet in elevation, and above the tree line, this is an amazing trip especially for those who have never been to such high altitudes. The draw back is the train is very slow; nearly an hour and a half each way.... More

The Cog Railway is worth doing if you have at least half a day. Not expensive but take extra money for the fresh made cake donuts on the top of the peak and be prepared for cold and wind. The train guide helps to point out animals and interesting historical places along the route, including a 19th century hotel halfway... More

This is a great way to see the mountain. If you have time, do this and the highway. Both offer great and different views. Leave with enough time to factor in traffic during the summer months as it gets really busy in Manitou. You can be at a standstill on Ruxton Ave for a while. Parking is $5. Purchase your... More

This was the BEST part of our 5 day trip thru Colorado. Took the 9 am train and was back by 1. The mountain is beautiful and majestic. Take a jacket and some water. And buy a donut at the top!!

The Cog Railway used to get five stars from me, but that's back when they let you stay at the top until you were ready to come down. We had out of town guests, and looked forward to spending some time at the gift shop and enjoying the views at the top of Pikes Peak. When we got to the... More

The trip up and down takes about 80 min each way and is slow enough to enjoy the scenery as you travel above the tree line at about 11,500 ft elevation. We saw some long horn sheep on the tracks ahead, but they scampered up the mountain as we got closer. The guide in each railcar provides a good explanation... More

Since most of the world can't make the hike up one of these "fourteeners" as they are so aptly names for their height, this is one of those opportunities to be able to see a summit this high up! A long train ride, but smooth and slow. My only issue was the altitude sickness that I felt on the top.... More

We sat backwards and the seats are really close together so if your a big person a tight squeeze. Takes over 1 hour to get to the top the narrator on our train was great.
