I've visited Cave of the Winds probably 5-6 times in the last 20 years, and yesterday's visit left me saying, "Meh...". The guides are all seemingly minimum-wage-earning high schoolers who couldn't care less about the job, and rush through the prewritten speech at each stop along the tour. The cave is of course interesting to look at, but the large... more

My family of 4 paid alittle extra to reserve spots on the Lantern Tour. By signing up online we saw each tour allowed 10 people. That's why we were surprised to see a total of 17 people croweded onto our tour -- many who had just bought tickets. Four people didn't understand why they were handed lanterns (obviously missed the... more

My husband and I travel to Colorado every year. In April 2009 we decided to take the cave tour ($18) for a guided 45 minute tour. If you've never done a cave tour you will find it pretty interesting, kids would find it pretty interesting too. However, we have also done cave tours in Kentucky and Missouri and feel this... more

This was the second summer in a row that we have gone to a cave. We went to one in Texas last year. This was an equally interesting tour. Our tour guide, Joe, was great!!! He really made the tour. Our kids thought he was hilarious. Worth the money if you have never done a cave before, maybe not if... more

My daughter and I went on a tour of Cave of the Winds recently. It was her first time. Our tour guide was really knowledgable. There is a lot of stooping, and narrow stairs. But it is worth it. Such natural beauty! They take pictures that are $10, FYI. more

After taking the Discovery tour a couple of years ago, I signed up online for the Lantern tour. (Online reservations are a great idea for avoiding long waits!) As an earlier reviewer said at length, the lantern tour was disappointing. After a quick walk through part of the paved discovery tour, we received our crude lanterns, each a kerosene "candle"... more

My family and I visited Cave of the Winds on July 16th. It was pretty interesting to my daughters (19 & 9). I have been in several caves and this was not the best, not the worst. Falls right in between. Great for first time cavers. more

My husband and I were doing the Colorado Springs "tourists" thing, going up Cog Railway, viewing the Cave Dwellings, etc., but found this place so dirty and unbusiness-like, with young employees who seemed more concerned about themselves and their relationships, that we didn't even take the tour. We found the janitor to be more informative and nicer than anyone else.... more

Compared to the Olympic Training Center and the Garden of the Gods (the other major attractions we visited) the Cave of the Winds passes with flying colors. Sure, if your a geologist you might consider this an "amateur cave". But I took the tour with my younger siblings (ages 9-13) and we all really enjoyed it. The tour guide was... more

If you have never been in a cave, you might enjoy the normal tour ($18). I can't speak to the more expensive latern tour which is longer and more of a ghost story but the standard tour hits just the basics. You learn the difference between formations (great for a kid in earth science class) but nothing breath taking here.... more
