Relaxed way to spend an afternoon

Friendly staff, quiet on the train, you get to walk up and down the full lenght of the train. Scenery does not get spectacular, but did spot some deer!

The trip was very scenic and informative. There are several covered cars and open cars. We were able to get up and walk around from car to car. There are restrooms and a souvenir shop as well as a snack bar. We enjoyed the trip.

This attraction is definitely a must for getting a chance to view the beautiful scenery along-side the mountain. It was amazing how the railroad dangles along the mountain side, yet seems so secure. The conductor did a great job providing us details of the trip and areas details/history. It was really informative and entertaining for all ages. My 4-year-old loves... More

We took our 2 grandkids and our Pomeranian on the train. (Yes, pets are welcome!) The scenery was breathtaking. The snack car doesn't cost an arm and leg. They offered a bowl of water for the dog. Don't miss this attraction!

We have been on this train another time, but this time was better. They have a snack car now, and it has some great treats as really reasonable prices. And the views are amazing, we even had to stop because of an avalanche that covered the track on the way back! So much fun!

We took this train ride while on vacation in Avon, CO - the drive to Leadville is beautiful - the train ride was awesome with great views of valleys, mountains and streams - we sat in an open car in late May and it was beautiful - not too cold with light jacket - all the staff from the ticket... The ride on the Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad was fun and the sights were terrific. We saw quite a bit of wildlife on the trip, too. Our guide gave us los of information about the area as we travelled through. Just one word of caution: bring warm clothes! These cars are open and it got really cold on the... More

This was our third train ride in three days. Definitely, the best views are offered on this route. Select seats on the left, "downhill side", with the engine at the rear of the cars, because the seats face the best views of the valley, river and mountain range. None of the cars are heated, but some have a roof and... More

Very nice time and great scenery along the way. Learned a lot from the conductor. The ride back was relaxing, but it would have been a lot of fun to do the zip line option and take it down.

The train follows tracks up towards the Climax mine. Plenty of snow at the 11,000 foot level. The conductor/ narrator was informative and entertaining. There is a converted box car with a rolling gift shop/ bathrooms. The hot chocolate was the big seller on this trip. Awesome vistas on this inaugural 2015 train trip. There is even a stop at...
