I really do not know what we were expecting, but the train followed the Colorado highway 91 but at a higher altitude. There was good scenery IF you were sitting on the "down" mountain side. The up mountain side mostly faced an up close view of sone and trees. It was a relaxing 2 1/2 hour ride. The train had... More

Went to ride the train for the afternoon. It was a very nice ride although the tour guide conductor was stumbling on the train information and did not have the knoweledge of the area without a cheat sheet. The box car staff were extra special, hats off to Diane for going the extra mile to make sure we got the... More

We took the train in Leadville for a lovely scenic ride. There are great mountain views and interesting narration of the sights. Warning: if you want a slow scenic ride, this is for you. If you have a need for speed, don't go. The train runs about ten miles an hour with the thumpers thump of old fashioned trains.

The views are incredible! This is a wonderful 2.5 hour train ride to near the Climax mine. The staff was friendly and courteous, and the train ticket was reasonable. Even though I'm a Colorado native, I learned several things about Leadville and the area that I didn't know. It was a great trip and I would highly recommend doing this with... More

We are 64 and 72 and since here have done steep hikes, white water rafting, mountain biking and needed a down day that was enjoyable. Indeed it was. The scenery was beautiful and the commentary helpful and interesting

Great way to spend an afternoon with family. Beautiful mountain scenery complete with variety of pine trees and aspen groves. The Conductor filled us in on the history of the railroad and surrounding area and made it interesting, definitely added value to the trip. Looking forward to another ride this September to view the fall colors.

Train ride through beautiful mountain country - what's not to like. The Conductor's talk on the history of the area was very interesting.

The ride is only 8 1/2 miles (one way) and travels at a jog pace. The conductor does a nice job of explaining the sights and details of the journey. The ride is pleasant, if a bit cool, even in mid-summer. My wife and I took our grandchildren, the 7 year old wasn't too interested and fell asleep on the... More
