While staying in Vail we did a couple of day trips and one was to Leadville to take the train. It was a day well spent. This time of year the train only runs once and day and boarding is 30 minutes prior. We did not pre-book and there was a line when we arrived but the train has several... More

Went on the ride for the fall colors, got there about 1:30pm as we were scheduled for the 2pm train ride and let me advise that you should get there plenty early if you want a seat we sat clear in the back last car before the caboose! The trip was great and the colors were mind blowing, the staff... More

We have been driving thru Leadville for years. I never knew they had this wonderful train. The train ride goes up the side of a mountain, you see historic sites and stop mid way for to exit off the train for photos and to look in the engine. There is a tour guide who is very knowledgeable and she will... More

I spent over 6 months planning our trip to Colorado. I planned the route, directions, places to eat, places to stay, things to see, and things to do, so that every last detail was covered. I booked the August 1st train trip in early March. The kids knew about the Rockies game, they knew about the horseback riding, they knew... More

We found this trip on this site and decided to give it a shot. We love trains, so it seemed to be up our alley. We took the special fall trip which is 3 hours long rather than the normal 2 1/2 hours. All of the staff were very pleasant, from the time we called to make our reservation until... More

This is not a fancy train, but then in the day it wasn't fancy but this train goes thru the most beautiful scenic country imaginable. This is a ride NOT to be missed

Although it was overcast (and later misting rain) this was a very pleasant trip. The aspens had just begun to turn gold and the engineer and conductor were personable and shared much historical trivia about the railroad and the town of Leadville. I paid an extra fee to sit in the engine on the way back down the mountain. It... More

This was a beautiful train ride and a great way to enjoy the beauty of the Rockies. The town of LEadville is fun too so plan on spending time walking around after the train ride.

While the staff running the train are knowledgeable and helpful, I couldn't help be be disappointed in the trip itself. I felt mislead by the reviews I read. I thought that I would "see" more of the mountain that I could see from the road below. Much of the ride is right through the trees, so your view is extremely... More
