This hike requires a little more stamina than I usually take, but I had read the warnings on Tripadvisor and had decided that I still wanted to tackle this. I'm 61 and although I'm not in horrid shape, I'm surely not as spry as many of the younger generation that were tackling this venture. Also keep in mind that if... More

Having rained the night before, the Hanging Lake Trail was extremely slippery and treacherous; took a somewhat nasty fall.

The reviews consistently stated one thing---arrive early or late in order to avoid parking frustrations. We arrived by 7:50am on a Sunday morning and the parking lot and street were far less than half full. My wife and I (in our late 30s) completed the hike in 2 hours and departed the area at 10:30am. The parking lot was completely... More

We were traveling from northern wi to the Snowmass area; after 1300 miles in the car, this is a great hike to begin getting used to the altitude and hiking uphill. There are always lots of people here, many different ages and physical abilities. I recommend wearing hiking boots and bring enough water! The trail follows along a creek, it's... More

Yes, the lake was beautiful and the water fall above was very pretty but there were so many people on the trail and at the lake at 0930-1130 on a Saturday that I wanted nothing more than to get back to my car. I had read a review that stated it would take approx. 1 hour to climb the trail... More

This place is magnificent, but since it is a short hike with a tremendous payoff, you will encounter massive crowds on nice days in season. Plan your visit to avoid when everyone else is planning theirs. There is a big parking area, but if it is at or near capacity and you don't like crowds, consider coming back another time.

Hanging Lake remains a Colorado tradition. The crowds can be discouraging on summer weekends. Go early! The state is growing so fast and the infrastructure is always behind. The engineering to retain access to this place is great. I-70 is routed thru a tunnel to cut back on road noise. The odd interchange was built to save the canyon from... More

Loved this hike. A lot of vertical for a short hike - about an hour up and 45 min down for a flat lander in pretty good shape. The lake is amazing. Colors are breathtaking. Very busy trail. Lots of friendly people though. Highly recommend it. Only rated it a 4 because it was so busy. A very nice intro... More

My mother likes to torture me with strenuous activity and I thought that this hike would be yet another strenuous activity. However, as a really bad outdoors person I actually thoroughly enjoyed this! Not too strenuous, and very very pretty! Also, you feel rewarded when you get to the top and see the hanging lake. It feels more like a... More

So when the tour books said that the mile hike had SOME incline and SOME rocky areas...don't believe it. It was 95% incline and most of it quite rocky. If you are not steady on your feet, this might not be the best hike for you. Several times I thought I just could not make it...but kept plugging along and... More
