Hanging Lake is a great short hike (1 1/4 mile). It is an uphill all the way hike along a nice creek and trees. When you make it to the top you are rewarded with a beautiful crystal clear lake with several waterfalls. Wouldn't recommend for real young kids since you are climbing over large rocks.

after freaking out for a month before we did it, I actually accomplished it. Now, let me tell you... if I can do it, most people can. A major hike for a 1/2 mile up... but it feels like a whole lot mote. great experience and will never forget. Enjoy the time at the top, the 'hike' back down ain't... More

Typical of places that are overrun by tourists, the Hanging Lake trail is a victim of its own popularity. Its large (but inadequate) parking area fills up early in the high tourist seasons. Skip the impossible weekend crowding and arrive early during the week. Be prepared to dodge every kind of unprepared city slicker in flip flops you can imagine... More

I have rated this as "very good" based on pictures and what other people have posted, but the closest that we actually got was almost into the parking lot. Hopefully this may prove useful to other people planning to visit the lake. I had read numerous guidebooks and internet articles that said to get there early because the parking lot... More

I am not sure why there are separate entries for Hanging Lake and Hanging Lake Trail because the only way to get to Hanging Lake is via the trail. I overheard one tired hiker wishing that there was a tram or cable car to the lake but thankfully, there isn't! The hike up to the lake is not a simple... More

If you want to go to Hanging Lake because you saw nice photos and write ups about it somewhere, think again. There has been so much promotion of this tiny lake at the end of a steep one mile climb that it has become a totally overcrowded and unpleasant experience. Chances are, if you aren't waiting in line by 7-8am,... More

It was a rainy day when we hiked to Hanging Lake, but it did not detract from the beauty if the Lake. It was a wonder to see!

great trial....very steep! Views along the way and of the Hanging Lake are worth the effort to climb the trail....but yes this is a steep one. My son whined the whole time (teenager!) but even he was speechless when we got to the top. Only 1.2 mile trail, but difficult. My 70 year old mom had to sit this one... More

Incredibly beautiful location. Wish people would obey the signs and protect the area. Worth the effort to see this lake!

Hanging lake is a great place to trail run, or just hike. The hike is not to long... Maybe an hour, but at the top, one could easily forget there was a real world at the bottom.. This is a must see if you are in the area.
